The Science Behind Crystal Chakra Healing, Chakra Series Part 1

This is Part 1 of a 3-part series on Crystal Chakra Healing:

Another way you can work with your crystals…

& this is a really easy way with lots of benefits

is with crystal chakra healing.

I have a whole lot of info on this so I’m going to break it up into a 3 part series. This 1st part is my fav. thing to do…break it down into the How & Why with some science thrown in for good measure. Ready? Let’s go!

The science behind crystal chakra healing

We’re going to talk about the 7 main chakras. We have many more than just the 7 main ones but these are the most familiar ones…the familiar main 7 chakras are the major portals or the major energy hubs on our body.

chakra chart

Each chakra has a corresponding color associated with it. The colors are really easy to memorize…they follow the color of the rainbow, which always follow the same order:

  • Red
  • Orange
  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Indigo
  • Violet

Remember from school? ROY G BIV?

OK, I can’t resist…(please don’t yell at me if you end up with an ear-worm)

That’s the same exact color sequence that the chakras follow. And it’s no coincidence that they’re exactly the same sequence. It’s just science, Jelly Bean. 😉

Each chakra is also linked with a specific body part, specific body function & certain emotions, among other correspondences. One book I HIGHLY recommend you get to learn more about this is:

In addition, each chakra has a specific vibrational frequency. See colors, or more specifically “light” in various frequencies that we can actually see with our eye balls is just a teenie tiny part of the electromagnetic spectrum (EM spectrum). The colors (light frequencies) arrange themselves in order of decreasing vibrational wavelengths. Of these specific light frequencies, red is the longer wavelength  (lower frequency) & violet is the shortest wavelength (higher frequency). I haven’t lost ya yet, right? Stick with me here. 😉

Actually…everything on the EM spectrum is a type of light. Just a little smidge of the spectrum is the visible light that we can see with our eyes.  The chakras encompass all these colors that we can see. Each one has a very specific vibrational frequency.

In summary, each chakra has a specific vibrational frequency & a color that it expresses itself as.

These specific frequencies are aligned to certain known energies. This allows us to focus on one aspect at a time. For instance, if we want to zero in on anxiety & fear, we can focus our attention on the root chakra & improve it efficiently by just focusing in on that 1 particular chakra.

I’ve found chakra work to be very efficient & highly effective for clearing out all sorts so energetic imbalances. I’ve it heard over, over again…people saying things like,

“I’ve been going to therapy for a long time; going to see a therapist, a psychiatrist, etc. to work on my fear & anxiety issues.”

Not to belittle that at all. But if someone has been working on a specific issue for a long time…once that person addresses the associated chakra & works on clearing & balancing that chakra…most of the time the issue clears itself up much quicker by using chakra work alone or in conjunction with the therapy. Not to say this will work for everyone every time, but it’s certainly worth giving a try.

More Physics & Chakras?

As a former physics teacher, I can’t help but throw in more physics here. In my courses I teach the principle of entrainment when working with the chakras. This is a physics principle that basically says that energy of a higher amplitude will dominate & influence a similar frequency of a lower amplitude.

This is often demonstrated using tuning forks. When the tuning forks are tuned to the same frequency, if I rang 1 with a lot of energy (high amplitude) & then rang the other just gently (with a little bit of amplitude), the higher amplitude will dominate & influence the fork of the lower amplitude & it will get louder & raise its energy up (become higher amplitude) b/c the higher amplitude will dominate the lower amplitude.

Why do I bring this shiz up?

B/c we also will entrain with the higher amplitude energy.

If there is a similar frequency that comes into our environment & it happens to be of higher amplitude, it’s going to raise us up to match its frequency…to become a vibrational match.

Now…this is a big foundational brick of my teachings…a crystal is always going to be higher amplitude frequency b/c it has a more stable frequency in its inherent molecular structure. SAY WHAT?

So again…the reason for that stable frequency is it has a very precise atomic structure.

Sodium chloride molecule (salt crystal)...look at that precise crystal structure!

Sodium chloride molecule (salt crystal)…look at that precise crystal structure!

That’s what makes a crystal a crystal. A crystal has a precise geometric pattern in its molecular blueprint. Although we are human & we’re made of some crystals, we are not entirely crystalline. So, we are not as geometrically perfect as a crystal. Not even close.

Crystals are going to be in a higher amplitude energy field than us due to their geometric perfection. We’re going to entrain with the amplitude of their higher energy when similar frequencies are present.

OK, Geek! Get back to the chakras!

So, if you have a chakra that’s out of balance. For example, let’s say my third eye is completely whacked out. Not really…but just say…

I can take a nice amethyst natural point & I place that on my third eye.

amethystThe amethyst is of a similar vibrational frequency to my third eye but it’s higher amplitude energy, higher frequency, more stable because of it’s crystalline structure. Ya with me?

It’s going to vibrationally stabilize my third eye chakra. My third eye is going to entrain with that similar frequency. It’s going to move into resonance with the similar yet more precise & higher amplitude vibration of the amethyst.

Crystals have higher amplitude due to that geometric perfection…due to that, they are going to clear out & balance our chakras, making them more stable, entraining them with their higher amplitude energy. Thereby, changing the emotional & biochemical state of that chakra to the correct frequencies & also helping to maintain their stability.

Each chakra will entrain with that specific vibrational frequency of its color. For instance, the third eye chakra’s color is indigo,so it entrains with indigo.

This is certainly not the only chakra balancing method but it’s a very easy one; simply choose a crystal within the same color family as the chakra you’d like to balance. So for the third eye, indigo stones like lapis lazuli, iolite or amethyst are great to work with.

Or for the heart chakra, green aventurine, jade or green tourmaline would be perfect.

green aventurine

Luscious green aventurine tumblies.

Matching up the color is a pretty foolproof & simple way to go.

chakra stones

Now some people say,

“You shouldn’t match the color of the chakra to the stone because whatever color you’re seeing is actually the color that’s being reflected & not absorbed by the stone. That’s not actually the color of the stone.”

Then I’m like,

“Yup. And that’s EXACTLY what I’m looking for, because if that’s the light frequency that’s being reflected & bounced off, then that’s the color that’s bathing the environment of the chakra.”

That’s exactly what we want. Is it not?? I think it’s a great way to do it. Not to mention that I have confirmation from case study after case study as do my students. Color works, Baby!

OK, so that’s part 1. Hope I didn’t burn you out on the science. Part 2 is about how to determine which chakras need balancing & Part 3 is about what to do with the crystals.

Thanks so much, as always, for reading, sharing & joining in!

  1. Hi,
I’ve been reading your fb posts for 6 months now. (Along with How to Raise Your Vibration) and a few others. My first incounter with crystal work was about 25 years ago. But in the mid ’80’s info on such things was very sparse where I’m from. I let my interest die down and was re-immersed into ‘normal’ life challenges. But last summer a friend re-awakened my interest. 😉

Now, there is info everywhere, and it’s a matter of choosing the right sources and staying on track. 😉 I believe you are a solid source of knowledge and perhaps guidaince.

My circumstances are complicated. I’m now in my 60’s and my physical body has been subjected to several surgeries, radiation, chemo, and radioactive implants. For 8 years the chemo damage to the synapses left me unable to process new info and scrambled much of the old. That condition is on the mend. I can feel my brain functioning again, for longer periods of time.

I would like guidance in self-healing, with the hope of more involvement as a student/practitioner.
    FYI… I make hemp jewelry with gems/crystals.;)

    1. Post

Blessings of Good Health to you Jean. You’re on the right track. And reading & challenging your brain to learn & grow is the best way to heal it. Stick with us here in my blog & newsletter, use the crystals & challenge your brain with things like & you’ll continue to heal as you are. ((HUGS)) & Happy New Year!

    2. “You shouldn’t match the color of the chakra to the stone because whatever color you’re seeing is actually the color that’s being reflected & not absorbed by the stone. That’s not actually the color of the stone.” ? Should or Shouldn’t

  2. Hi, this is a really informative article. I believe that crystals work but sometimes it can be hard to explain to people, exactly why that is. I’m a nurse and a Reiki master teacher, and I often teach medical professionals like doctors, nurses and physical therapists Reiki. Sometimes I risk loosing people that are concrete thinkers when I start teaching advanced levels of Reiki, if I can’t explain to things in scientific terms. I really appreciate your explaining this and your timing is perfect because I am teaching an ART class at a military treatment facility in a couple of weeks.
I really look forward to your next post! Thank you again, it’s a credit to us all to have someone so knowledgable on the subject. I’m a big fan! Happy new year!

    1. Post
  3. I love this article, I already have Chakra Crystals and a book, but this is fantastic for explaining the science, and letting me know I’m on the right track.. I have quite a few questions, but it looks like you will answer in parts 2 & 3.. I can’t wait!! I’m so glad I found you on facebook 🙂

Thank you, and Happy New Year

  4. The chakras are really a great place to START the healing process with any issue, physical or otherwise. Really love this and looking forward to more. Thanks!

  5. I loved reading this! I hate when people try to teach something about crystals, but don’t explain WHY! I absolutely love love LOVE reading the science part of it. I can’t wait to see what comes next, yay!

  6. Thank you!!! I’ve been looking for something concrete regarding chakra balancing/finding the right crystals for a while now. You’ve just presented some very easily digestible science to back up what I’ve been feeling already!

A lot of the theory/books out there constantly contradict themselves on which crystals suits each chakra, but compounding the spirituality of it with the science, the answers are so simple.

I really do believe that spirit makes things simple for us to realise while we have temporary amnesia of infinite intelligence living life over here in the physical – mankind makes it complicated!

    Love and light x

    1. if your having a hard time finding the crystals for a chakra ask your pendulum but make sure you activate the crystal with the element or consecrate

  7. Oh my, my, my!! You are always presenting us with the BEST info!!! I volunteer in the shop of a healing arts center and we sell crystals, stones, oils, etc. I am always being asked what the purpose of the stones are, how to use them, why and as you can imagine, many others as well. I love being able to learn such sound and easy to understand ways of helping others to understand from you!!
I too LOVE the science and how you explain how it all works together!
You are such a source of inspiration as well as incredible info! I am so grateful you have chosen this as your path!! Thank you Hibiscus Moon!! Much love to you and your family (that includes your sparkly cohorts!!!)

  8. Hi! I love every post of yours and must confess that I am very greedy for your information packed yet simply put videos. From novice to professionals all love them. The Chakra healing thing came on right time, since past 3 days I was and am reading every information on chakra and got further confused. I like the science part u have put in. Just a suggestion, kindly shed light on jow to identify out of balance chakras, ndercharged chakras or blocked ones. And which of the root chakra crystals help in opening/balancing/clearing/ activating/ etc for the chakra. How do we select the right crystal for it. Also do explain the way they are placed and if any pointers are to be used, facing out or inside. Sorry!! I am asking abit more, but cant think of anywhere else where I can get a satisfactory answer. Thanka

  9. Thanks for the article! Looking forward to parts 2 and 3. You have a gift of explaining these topics in a grounded, humorous, and approachable way. Thank you!

  10. thank you!! wonderful article. I have for years used the color correlation to explain the chakras and work with crystals the same way. I know there is a ton of detailed info on each particular crystal but i feel the simpler the better .. leaning on my intuition to point to one type crystal over the other. this also makes it so much easier to explain to folks. the science is a terrific piece of information that again can help validate crystal work! when explaining to folks unfamiliar with energy, simple works where details overwhelm. thank you for this! blessings, jani

  11. This is a BOMBSHELL of an article, thank you so much!! I’m a very analytical person with a very positivist background and am still searching for the nitty gritty workings. As such I do have a [geeky] question for clarification if you would indulge me.

You say that “The amethyst is of a similar vibrational frequency to my third eye but it’s higher amplitude energy, higher frequency, more stable because of it’s crystalline structure. The higher amplitude because of molecular stability – I get it and I really appreciate that clarity you bring.

However, when you mention higher frequency, I start to wonder. You say that each chakra has a “similar frequency”, which I assume them means they are factors of each other, or something like that. But if its a specifically -higher- frequency, doesn’t that just make the amethyst “move up” a chakra? Or is it that there are intervals in between the chakra “nodes” along the EM spectrum, and within that interval is where our de-stabilised chakras vibrate and when brought to resonance with the crystal, they are pulled up to the next node (corresponding with a stable crystal/chakra)?

Along the same lines, the crystals have a necessarily higher amplitude energetic quality because of their stability, but does this necessarily imply a higher frequency? If your chakra is out of whack, couldn’t it be of a lower amplitude but a higher (more irregular?) frequency in comparison to the stable crystal? Then the crystal would be bringing the chakra into resonance and stabilising it, rather than necessarily raising it up.

I hope my questions are clear, I would really appreciate your insight. Thank you!

  12. Hi Stephanie. Thanks for your blog and sharing the little film clip of Roy G Biv. It’s amazing how things stick in your mind when set to music. You are probably too young to remember “Muliplication Rock” but that’s how I learned my times tables. Your blogs are informative as well as entertaining and I look forward to them every week

  13. I have been a “Rock Person” as far back as i can remember. I used to Balance my chakras with crystals and gemstones. So this is a great reminder and the “push” i need to do it again. Thanks and your info you share is very well represented!!

  14. Hi! Thank you for this article! I am new to crystal use and wanting to learn more. I have an amethyst (looks just like the one in your picture in this article) and placed it on my 3rd eye yesterday and it felt amazing. However, I placed it on my husband’s and he said it gave him a head ache. Do you know if this is common and what would cause this?

  15. Thank you so much 🙂 I love reading your articles, they are always so helpful and written in a lovely easy way.
    Crystal Blessings to you x x x x x

  19. Hi, thanks for this info!
I always check around for info about crystals, but find myself right back at your videos
    and newsletters.
You’ve explained the chakras so well, this is exactly what I needed to learn about right now.

    Thanks so much!

  21. Can you help me to further understand your chakra healing concept when the idea of chakra color assignments is NOT based in science or ancient history, but rather a modern teaching tool implemented by Carl Jung? He created this model of assigning the chakras colors simply to illustrate their ascending energies for his students. The chakras, as originated from the Hindus, were NEVER associated with any color…..

  22. You are my Guru! 😀 As a Chrystal Therapist I have doing this for years and as geek I totally get this and its great to finally have someone else that sees it like I do! Now I have it in great easy to read and explain form – You really are a gem! Love & Light Sister! XX

  23. Great introduction to Part 1!! But in my current up-to-date Firefox browser, there is a large blank space after you say: “One book I HIGHLY recommend you get to learn more about this is:”

What is the book you are referring to, please? I’d love to get it.

  24. I love your Facebook posts. I have been working with crystals since the 1980s.

I had to leave many of my crystals behind when I became homeless. No w that is resolved and I am replenishing my collection. Thanks for you posts and classes

  25. All of a sudden my life has had a drastic change. My financial life has taken a turn for the worst. What Crystals will help with the sale of property and increase my financial well being? I am fairly new to using Crystals for healing, but very interested learning about all of the benefits they offer. I have several friends that use Crystals, and am amazed at the powers they have. I could sure use some guidance.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

  26. You make SO MUCH sense the way that you explain crystals and chakras. I feel very blessed to have been drawn here. When I opened the article I had an energy rush from base chakra right though my body out through my crown chakra! Amazing clearing from just opening this article. I look forward to reading more 🙂

  27. Wow, thank you so very much for this. As I have recently began my path of healing myself, so I am able to be my true self. I woke this morning with knowledge of my problem areas. I’ve struggled with release, I asked my rutilated amethyst pendulum to identify my blockages. My root is in need of repair. Sure enough the universe answered my question with this amazing article. Love and light, and unimaginable gratitude for you and whomever else may be in need.

  28. 1. What does the letters pm stand for as they relate to millimeters mm in your chart?
    2. So when we make crystal grids with sacred geometry we amplify the crystal molecular structure?
    3. When using s crystal of a higher amplitude to balance out the chakra where on your body do you place it? Do you place it upon the chakra or attempt to Balance the chakra above it. I know this is probably in part 2, but I had to ask it.
    4. Why is the root chakra the longest? Is it because the frequency moves slower?

  29. Hello, Hibiscus! Another fabulous post! But the book recommendation isn’t there. Maybe the link or image broke? Could you update it? I’m so curious what the book is!
