New Crystal Fakes To Keep An Eye Out For

Hibiscus Moon fakes 4 Comments

Yep, we’ve got more crystal fakes to talk about today. Looks like this problem is becoming more and more prevalent.
Get Educated about Crystal Fakes
One of my greatest joys is investigating and researching possible fake minerals and then teaching our Crystal Family about what’s popping up out there, keeping us educated so we can avoid the confusion that comes along with misrepresentations and crystal fakes. This way we can all make informed decisions when adding specimens to our sacred collections.

The three I’m going to discuss today aren’t what I would classify as a misrepresentation; these are straight up Crystal FAKES.

If you feel passionate about this too, please share this post in any way you prefer. (***There are some handy “SHARE” buttons you can use at the bottom of this post***).

And if you haven’t already done so, you can [thrive_2step id='21832']download my free eBook on this subject[/thrive_2step], so you can grab my entire “Fakes” blog series in 1 convenient place and have a reference guide all your own. (Oh yes, this eBook has topped 100 pages now and includes all the info from this blog too). 🙂

[thrive_2step id='21832'][/thrive_2step]

Let’s dig into it!
Fake Moldavite
Moldavite has become quite the popular metaphysical stone. I’ve written before about its energy here.

Why would anyone want to create a synthetic version of this? Well, finding and mining for moldavite is getting harder.

Several years ago the Czech government changed the rules restricting miners abilities to dig no deeper than one meter deep (unless they’ve paid for a very expensive permit). In addition, it’s becoming increasingly harder to find the green rock since there’s a very limited supply of it and it’s becoming more and more scarce. It’s an expensive stone for this reason. So you can see the motivation for wanting to fake it.
Genuine Characteristics
Moldavite is most likely formed by an ancient meteorite’s violent impact with our planet. Because of the quick cooling that immediately followed, moldavite is characterized by lots of very small internal bubbles and random flow lines.

Another thing to look for in the real stuff can be found with a jeweler’s loupe. You’re looking for teeny-tiny worm-like wire filaments that won’t exist in the melted glass fakes.

[caption id="attachment_22180" align="aligncenter" width="746"] By Onohej zlatove [CC BY-SA 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0)], from Wikimedia Commons[/caption]
Fake Characteristics
Fake Moldavite, on the other hand, usually won’t exhibit much texture; they’ll be relatively perfect looking with no bubbles. Because much of the fake stuff is made of melted green glass (green bottle glass, melted down and then etched with acid to make it look like the real deal) they’ll have a wet-shiny look. In addition that bottle glass stuff will have a blue cast to it, whereas the real moldavite green has more of an olive tone.

It will be more uniform and smooth. If you’re looking at moldavite in bulk, you may also notice there are many pieces exhibiting the same shape and not randomly shaped at all.

Another trick, to kind of hide or disguise the fact that they look different from real moldavite…often times fakes will already be faceted or set into jewelry.

Also, large pieces of moldavite are extremely rare so, be aware.

As always, the price is a good indicator. If you find moldavite at a too-good-to-be-true price, start looking for signs of it being a fake.

Unfortunately, many of the moldavite fakes come from China, India, Japan or Thailand so if you’re buying online from those locales, be sure you’re buying from a reputable trusted seller.
Gold Lodestone
This was a new one I was alerted to recently. I had never heard of it but a couple of my students asked about it during our last term so it must be relatively new on the rock scene.

They really look like pyrite, don’t they?

I immediately suspected they had been painted. So I ordered some up and sure enough, they’re just regular lodestone (magnetic magnetite) that have been painted up with gold paint.

I’ve seen them being touted to bring luck and prosperity. You can get those energies from all natural lodestone, so I see no need for the gold paint on them.

I did a quick search and unfortunately, with the three sellers I found; no one disclosed that they were painted lodestone. Then again, maybe the shop owners aren’t even aware.
Yellow Tibetan Quartz | New Finds?
Now this one…

Captured your attention? Yep, mine too.

They’re pretty, there’s no doubt.

BUT, my experienced eye noticed that they looked a little too much like the synthetic green quartz I wrote about some time ago. I can tell from the characteristics that they used the same laboratory process as green quartz but have just started infusing a different chemical or dye to achieve these colors.
Yellow Tibetan Quartz/Spirit Quartz
The one in the above photo was listed as Yellow Tibetan Quartz/Spirit Quartz; most likely because it was purchased from Tibet, a popular spot where these sorts of synthetics often come from.
I could tell from the seller that they were not at all aware that this was a fake.
Let me tell you, I’m afraid to touch this spiny thing. Spirit quartz grows with tiny crystal facets on it. However, this thing has very fine crystal filament splinters growing on it that pierced me several times. It’s quite dangerous actually. That is NOT how natural crystal grows.

[thrive_2step id='21832'][/thrive_2step]
New Find Yellow Phantom Quartz Crystal
This next one was listed as “New Find Yellow Phantom Quartz Crystal Cluster Specimen”. I’m laughing… I can’t even get pissed anymore because this stuff has just gotten so ridiculous.

The listing also called this one “yellow citrine quartz”.

So which is it?

Citrine or Yellow Phantom?

I guess they thought the fancier woo-woo names they threw in, the better.

The listing also included this “helpful” info: “Please take note that each crystal will be slightly different from the picture due to it being a natural stone.” A natural stone you say? I don’t know… call me picky but I strongly feel that it needs to be disclosed when a mineral specimen is synthetic.
Blue Phantom Quartz
OK, I have to admit, this is one is pretty eye-catching. The Blue Phantom Quartz was obtained from the same seller as the above “Yellow Phantom”. The seller shipped from China. I suspect these were grown in the same lab.

This one was also listed as a “Natural Quartz” and ironically the listing said this: “Blue Phantom in Quartz Crystal is, of course, a Throat Chakra crystal. It helps us speak our truth.”

Really?

Ok, so you’re probably wondering how I can tell these are synthetics.

Here’s what to look for…
DEAD GIVEAWAY TELL-TALE SIGNS to look for:

  • Crystal tips and apexes that have an etched or stepped growth pattern; due to forced regrowth of a quartz cluster (or sometimes they’re entirely synthetic)
  • Crystal apexes (tips) that are trigonal (3 facets) rather than the more common hexagonal (6 facet tip)
  • More color concentration at apexes (even look like phantoms so may be higher in price!)
  • Many of these specimens on eBay hail from China or Tibet (as did these examples)
  • Can look like spirit or fairy quartz w/ the same sort of teeny crusted crystals points that tend to cover the crystal shafts; due to the forced regrowth, but the crystal growth is MUCH smaller than a genuine spirit quartz

Always use your common sense and the best protection from this is to be well-informed yourself.

I just want us all to have the geo-knowledge first. Then you can make an informed decision regarding how you choose to work with these “stones”.

And as always, the moral of the story here is…

Buyer Beware: Who are you buying from? Are they reputable? Do they know what they’re talking about? Are you doing your own due diligence & research? The best way to protect yourself is education.

🔮Crystals 💎 for Anxiety 😬 and Stress

Hibiscus Moon anxiety, stress relief, Videos 5 Comments

Today we’re going to talk about crystal for anxiety and stress. This is something I get asked about a lot and when I did a poll on my Facebook page just the other day, this was the topic that seemed to win out. I have done several other older blog posts on this, but I’ve got some updated info and some cool stuff we’re going to do.

Oftentimes, worry and stress about the future is what can lead to anxiety, but some of us  have an anxiety disorder. Maybe we don’t even know what we’re worrying or stressing about, it’s just this anxiety takes hold of us.  I feel like it’s a side effect of living in today’s society. How w we lead our lives today is not the best … it’s the latest, but it’s not the greatest, right?

I believe that ancient humans had it down, or evern today in the cultures that live without a lot of the technology.  We’re immersed in the technology.  We’re immersed in so much fakeness from what  we put on our bodies to how we wash, to what we drink, to what we eat, to what we listen to, to the media, to what influences us. In every aspect, we’re bombarded by it and I feel like this is what leads to a lot of panic and anxiety disorders.

So for some, it’s sort of unexplainable and for some, it’s worrying or stressing about the future that leads to anxiety.

I heard it said that … thinking on the past leads to depression, and thinking and stressing about the future leads to anxiety.

If  you can reel in your thoughts, that can be beneficial right there!  But let’s also task about some crystals that can help.

I’ve got five crystals I’d like to talk to you about that are wonderful for inviting in the vibrations we want to get us past this anxiety.

If you have any of these crystals nearby, go grab them and bring them as you hear me discuss them and bring them here because you may want to use one later.
Five Crystals to Combat Anxiety and Stress
1.  Rose Quartz:   So rose quartz is the love crystal, right? It’s all about love, compassion, kindness. Love is the opposite of fear and that’s what anxiety is all about, at its root it’s fear. This stone invites in and embodies the love vibration. It’s excellent for calming, kindness, love and compassion.

If you’ve had any fear revolving around any sort of PTSD, chaos, fights, emotional drama, confrontations, this stone is really going to help calm everything down and comfort your heart Chakra. It also invites in loads of self love, which is great for dispelling fear. Plus this is a water safe stone.

2.   Blue Lace Agate:  This stone is well known for centering and calming your vibrational frequencies. It works really, really well for reprogramming your thoughts and your reactions, for calming your electromagnetic field. It’s a throat Chakra stone, so it allows us to express ourselves in a calm, gentle way, with a positive outlook. This is just what you’re needing when you’re overtaken by fear and anxiety because you might not be thinking rationally. You might be lashing out, or saying things in a wrong way, and we want to get them back to the correct way. So again, throat Chakra stone, really great for that.

You can just tell by looking at it, it’s gentle energy, right? Allows you to speak your mind clearly, but calmly and very eloquently, stating what needs to be said, but not in a way that’s going to exasperate the situation and clearly get you out of those fear inducing confrontations, situations. So, wonderful for keeping close by when you’re dealing with any kind of anxiety. Again, this one is water safe.

3.  Black tourmaline:   This guy is known for its ability to transmute and cleanse energy, it’s a well known stone for that. This is a nice chunky, weighty piece of black tourmaline, also, very high grade. It’s hard to find them in chucky weighty high grade pieces anymore, they might be a little rougher in appearance.

If you’re perceiving energy or a situation to be negative, this stone is wonderful for transmuting it and bringing it to neutral. This is your go to stone for that. Wonderful for purifying energy. So another good one to have nearby. I wouldn’t say that this one’s water safe because there is some elemental contents in there that … Don’t get all up in arms about it, but I err on the side of caution always when it comes to that. So I’m going to skip water safe on that. Not water safe, we’ll just say.

4.  Chrysocolla:  I  have a sphere of chrysocolla that looks like the planet earth, its just a gorgeous stone. Chrysocolla has a very feminine, soothing vibration, just as you would expect Mother Gaia, the planet to have. It really calms your heart Chakra. If your heart Chakra is beating out of fear, or with a panic, or anxiety, chrysocolla is a great one to have for that.

It’s also going to give you more confidence when you’re just paralyzed with fear, and maybe you know you need to communicate with others, and you’re having fear around the confrontation, or saying the right thing, or saying it in the way that maintains your boundaries and  get the point across.

How many times have you thought about what you’re going to say … (this happens to me all the time) and then you say it, and because of fear you don’t say it in the way that it needs to be said?  Then you walk away knowing that the other person didn’t hear you and you didn’t articulate what you really needed to say … then you’re just gripped with fear. You don’t want to go back and have that confrontation again, and you’re crossing your fingers that they understood what you needed them to understand but wonder was there a complete miscommunication and no one understood anything?  And then they just keep doing the same thing, right? Chrysocolla is the one that’s going to get you out of that situation. When you simply need some security in the social situations, confrontations, or social situations of any kind, it’s a great one to either wear as jewelry, or keeping your pocket.

Or what if public speaking is a big one? Some people are really terrified of public speaking. Not all of us. Obviously, I can’t be. I mean, I get a little nervous about it, but I don’t mind. I love public speaking. But I know that’s one of the biggest fears out there, and chrysocolla is one that I recommend having in your pocket, or a mojo kit, or in your bra, wherever you like to have it when you’re doing any kind of public speaking.

5.  Nirvana Quatz:   Nirvana Quartz comes from Tibet. It’s a beautiful quartz, large, chunky, very milky. It’s not clear at all. It’s got lots of etching on it and a coating of hematite. So it’s slightly pink, pinkish-white, barely pink. Nirvana Quartz is wonderful for helping you to overcome fear and allowing you to trust, to invite in trust.

It’s also allowing you to love yourself fully, all the flaws included because Nirvana Quartz visually is covered in flaws. So it helps you to learn to accept and love yourself with all the “flaws”, and I’m putting that into quotes because you are perfect in all your ways. The way that you are is 100% perfect. There are no flaws. It’s so that we’re not all carbon copies of each other in every way. I’m talking energetically, personality wise, and as well as physical. So Nirvana Quartz is wonderful for that. If you have any issues with lvoing yourself fully get yourself a Nirvana Quartz.

Nirvana Quartz is a water safe one too, so if you want to say that. I did see somebody asked about cchrysocolla. I did not mention it’s water safe.  d I don’t consider it to be water safe because of its possible copper content and because crysicola is a stone. Actually, it’s considered a crystal, it’s a mixture of other minerals. There’s other things in there too that’s to  be debated by the geologists. I’ll leave that to them. So I’m not listing it as water safe.
Anxiety Busting Meditation
Next we’re going to do an anxiety busting meditation here together. And just meditation can be effective, really, really effective for relieving anxiety, but it can be even more effective when you incorporate one of the crystals that I mentioned above. So if you have one of those crystalsgo ahead and grab it.

And meditation can be brief …tiIt doesn’t have to be an hour long, it can be effective in as little as 10 minutes. So if you’re gripped by anxiety on daily basis, I would highly recommend doing a crystal meditation for 10 minutes daily.

There are guided audio meditations with calming ocean waves. The ones that I really like are the ones with the binaural beats. The Theta wave binaural beats will actually entrain or influence your brain and soothe your nervous system.

There’s a great one called Relieve Anxiety by Brain Sync that I really like. Brain Sync is, brainsync.com. I think you can also find it on YouTube too.

What’s great about the Theta waves is that Theta waves are all about relieving anxiety. It’s the child-like brain. It’s where deep learning can take place. It’s also a brainwave state you go into when you’re in deep sleep, and it allows you to absorb and retain massive amounts of information that gets stored in your longterm memory. So it’s most like the brainwave state that you can be in to be most like a quartz crystal. Because these are he same things that quartz crystals can do;  store massive amounts of information in a data bank. That’s something that quartz crystals are able to do and  Theta wave makes our brains more like a quartz crystal.

Again, meditating can help you to temporarily relax, but it gives you longterm effects too. They accumulate when you do it on a daily basis. And like I said, just 10 minutes is great, but it’s greatly amplified when you use a crystal. And more importantly, it works on a deeper level by physically altering your actual brain function and brain wave activity. So getting your brain more into Theta more.

If we just leave thingsalone and do nothing, your brain is  always going to be in Beta when you’re awake. And that’s great for doing things, but it can be taxing and stressful on our brains and it’s good to bring it  into Theta when you’re able to. Meditation can actually reprogram your brain to be less anxious over the longterm.

Let’s Meditate:  So clear your space, close your door.

Try to go to a quiet, sacred space or visualie a sacred space.  . Try to control whatever you can as far as noise goes, and hold one of your crystals, whichever crystal it may be, if you have one. If you don’t have access to a crystal, that’s okay. You can still do this with us, okay?

So we’re going to take a few deep breaths and close your eyes. We’re actually going to take this time to be present and go deep within and relax the mind. Feeling anything you’re holding onto, release it, any sensations, any tightness in your muscles, any tension. Check in with your emotions. What are you feeling right now? Just notice and observe and then leave it there. And visualize the interior of the crystal you’re holding, the orderliness of it as it influences and reduces the chaos in your brain. And now bring your attention to your breath, not doing anything special with it, just notice it. And gently breathe in to invite space in your body and breathe out to release any tension with awareness.

Now bring your attention to your belly as it rises and falls with each breath, and bring the breath there to your belly so that instead of expanding our lungs, we breathe with the belly of a baby. Plump the belly out as you inhale, and release it as you exhale. Expanding the belly on an inhale and falling on the exhale. We’re mindful of the breath coming in and going out. Just breathing naturally, normally, but aware of the rise and the fall of your baby belly, mindfully breathing. This belly breathing actually calms us. You can do this whenever you’re feeling stressed, angry, anxious, anxiety, fearful in any way.

Now bring your focus and awareness back into your crystal again and notice the energy vibration as that crystal’s frequency entrains and influences your own. Remember the orderliness within that crystal it’s reducing the chaos in your brain. And even during this meditation, we might be experiencing a fearful thought, or some anxious thought, or worry, or fear, and we can just observe it and let it go. Say, “Thank you for showing up. You’re not needed here right now.” Don’t worry about it because you can pick it up later if you want to.

No matter what might be popping into your brain, you can give yourself permission now to be peaceful.

And you can silently say to yourself,
“I allow myself to experience complete calm and peacefulness with my crystal in this moment.”
Then just come back to your breath again, gentle inhale and exhale, feeling your belly expanding on the inhalation, releasing on the exhalation. Just gently breathing in and out. In your next exhale you can even audibly sigh and sense the energy gently washing over you.

With your eyes still closed, give gratitude to your crystal, feel it in your hand, and you can gently wiggle your fingers and toes. And when you feel ready, you can come back to us. Tell us in the comments below if you u noticed, anything you observed, how you’re feeling right now. How did you do?
Anti-Anxiety Crystal Bath
Just to give you  some other actionable things you can do  with any of those crystals that I mentioned before that were water safe,

  • you can put them in a bath and take an anti-anxiety bath. Perhaps you can … redo the meditation Facebook page so you can replay the meditation we did.
  • when you take an anti-anxiety bath, you can put one or more of the water safe crystals in the bath plus a few drops of lavender essential oil, and it will greatly help you in relieving anxiety

Anti- Anxiety Crystal Grid
Something else you can do is you can do an anti-anxiety crystal grid with the crystals that we talked about. I have another blog post over here on How to Make a Crystal Grid.  For this purpose here today, here’s an affirmation you can use for the grid, or just an affirmation you can use tocalm your mind as you hold one of the crystals.
“I  charge this grid with healthy thoughts and mental calmness, manifesting assurance, peace, ease, and happiness for myself now.”
I hope you’ve enjoyed these tips on Crystals for Anxiety and Stress.  Let me know in the comments below if you tried this meditation or if  you work with any of these stones for stress relief.

Crystal Blessings,

Which Crystal is the Most Powerful?

Hibiscus Moon Crystals, Videos 37 Comments

Today, I want to address a question that I get often, which is,
“Which crystals are the most powerful to work with?”

It’s a question, at first… I used to kind of say,
“Well, that all depends,”
but now I’ve actually come across some info, done some research + some work on my own… and I’ve changed my answer:
Yes, I have some crystals, or A CRYSTAL, that I do feel is the MOST powerful.
Rather recently, I did a couple of blog posts on some scientific properties of crystals… and they were pretty popular posts. It seemed that people were really interested in finding out more about these properties, and those specific properties are:

  • piezoelectricity
  • pyroelectricity
  • triboluminescence

All 3 of these are properties that have to do with electricity or voltage in some form or another and I found that certain crystals have two or more of these properties. I also noted that seemed to correspond to how powerful I’ve seen these crystals to be in people’s lives as catalysts for information.

Let’s just do a quick re-cap. I’m not going to dive deep into these things because you can jump over here and over to this blog post where I really detail it out for you.
Piezoelectricity
Piezoelectricity refers to a crystal’s ability to produce voltage when pressurized.

Certain crystals will actually produce a voltage when their crystal lattice is under pressure of any sort and that’s why we can use them in different ways in technology.

Some crystals that are known to do this are quartz, topaz + any type of tourmaline.

When I say “quartz”, I mean all types of quartz—not just clear quartz; so that includes amethyst, agate, citrine, rose quartz, Auralite 23, what have you.

Pyroelectricity
“Pyro” means fire, so it has to do with temperature. Specifically, it’s the ability of a crystal to produce voltage when heated or cooled. And quartz, again, has the ability to do this, as does tourmaline…. any kind of tourmaline. Even, indicolite, which is a teal blue or blue tourmaline—really beautiful.

(This piece shown below is a closeup of the indicolite I feature in my above video.)

There are other crystals that qualify, but there are reasons why I’m bringing those specific crystals up. 😉 We’ll get to that in a sec.
Triboluminescence
I demonstrated triboluminescence in a video in this blog post a little while back, which is the property of the crystal to actually be able to produce light when it’s struck.

And it doesn’t just produce light on the outside, like friction blowing out a spark, but internally, as well as externally; it produces this flash of light! So it’s not simply explained away as friction.
It’s actually a property that’s not well understood by science. They’re actually not yet able to fully explain why or how it’s happening.
Crystals that are able to express triboluminescence are: quartz, diamond, and fluorite.

So, Which Crystal is the Most Powerful Crystal?
The word “powerful” is a very subjective & relative term. Isn’t it?

But I think I “get” what people mean when they ask me that… and you probably do too.

I do feel that crystals that have the properties that I’ve discussed here are more powerful than crystals that don’t. And that just simply comes from my experience working with them, research that I’ve done and the experience of my 1000’s of students & graduates of my Certified Crystal Healer Course who’ve used them in their practices with clients. I’ve noted that many experience profound transformation in working with these crystals and… bonus they’re all crystals that are relatively easy to find.

If you’ll notice, quartz possesses all three of these properties I mentioned here:

  • piezoelectricity
  • pyroelectricity
  • triboluminescence.

It has other properties as well. In addition, it’s a silicate mineral, which happen to be the most abundant minerals on the Earth’s crust. (More than 90% of our planet’s crust is composed of silicate minerals.)

I feel like that’s no coincidence… that quartz, in all its many forms—rose quartz, amethyst, citrine, green aventurine, clear quartz— is so accessible to us; both plentiful & relatively low-cost.

All the jaspers all the agates—these are all quartz-based minerals that we can work with and probably the one mineral we work with most often, because again, it’s one of the most attractive & most abundantly found on our planet; easily accessible to us.

So, to finally answer the question:
In my opinion, quartz (any kind of quartz), is the “A” number one most powerful crystal, and then 2nd would be tourmaline, and then thirdly I’d place topaz.
I feel crystals that have these special properties are the most powerful ones because this allows the crystals to more easily tap into the body’s voltage and polarity. In my Certified Crystal Healer Course I teach more on the physics behind how/why it works.

Again, “what crystal is most powerful” can be up to personal interpretation… it’s a matter of opinion & experiences and it can be very subjective based on the work that you’ve done and other crystals or minerals that you’ve worked with that you found to be very powerful. Maybe malachite is the most powerful one for you? I’m not saying that your experience is wrong; I’m just giving my opinion on this subject here since I’m so often asked this question and I wanted a place to park my answer to refer people to.

I’d love to open up a discussion about this!  What’s the most powerful crystal for you? Please share in the comments below. I can’t wait to read your response. 🙂

Crystal Blessings,

More Crystal Fakes & Misrepresentations

Hibiscus Moon fakes 25 Comments

Yep, we’ve got more crystal fakes to talk about today. 😀 Yahoooo!

On my most recent trip out to the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show I attended a lecture on Fake Minerals.

Oh my gosh…this was so right up my alley! Can you make a Crystal Hottie/Nerd any happier? I mean… finding an academic lecture to attend while hanging out at the biggest most glittery gem show in the world, teaching about mineral frauds. Whaaaaa? You better believe I was front row & center, glasses pressed down tight on my nose, notebook & pencil in hand! Poor Frankie (my hubs) suffered through too. He’s such a good sport! 🙂

I like to stay current on my geo-geekiness so I can continue to bring you the most up-to-date & valuable info + sparkly content.

Plus I just looooove learning!! ♥

One of my greatest joys is educating our #CrystalHottie community on what’s available out there. This way we can all make informed decisions when adding specimens to our sacred collections. If you feel passionate about this too, please share this post in any way you prefer. (***There are some handy-dandy “SHARE” buttons you can use at the bottom***).

And if you haven’t already done so, you can [thrive_2step id='21832']download my free eBook on this subject[/thrive_2step] so you can grab my entire “Fakes” blog series in 1 convenient place & have a reference guide all your own.♥

So, today I have 3 more fakes or common confusion-makers to talk about. Let’s dive in!
Ruby Zoisite
This stone is highly sought after as it’s often recommended to help support people dealing with some serious illnesses. Quite a chakra-verstile stone, it helps to balance the heart chakra as well as the root & the third eye while also boosting vitality & a joy for life.

Here we have some gorgeous real-deal Ruby Zoisite (photo below) with HUGE chunks of hexagonal ruby in the middle of the stones. YUM!!

But it more commonly expresses itself like this (photo below) …

[caption id="attachment_19617" align="aligncenter" width="700"] By Parent Géry (Own work) [CC BY-SA 3.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0) or GFDL (http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/fdl.html)], via Wikimedia Commons[/caption]HOWEVER…

many sellers are selling Ruby Fuschite as Ruby Zoisite and they are simply not the same thing!

I think most sellers are totally not aware & are simply repeating what they’re being told from whoever they’re buying the minerals from. **It happened to me & I was part of the problem at one point.**  Yep, I was selling ruby fuschite as ruby zoisite about 8 years ago simply b/c that’s what the wholesaler told me it was! So I just believed him & went with it. Then a fellow geo-geek pointed out my mistake. *Thank you!* I did some research & testing & found out what was up.
I then discovered that most sellers out there at the time were also perpetuating this same exact misinformation.
I mean, you can see how the confusion would happen, right?

Although, I do notice this mix-up happening less often these days…I do still see it happening so I had to include it here in this post.

Ruby Fuschite (seen below in that giant sphere) is relatively plentiful…unlike Ruby Zoisite, which is much harder to come by and is usually a bit more expensive.

(BTW…don’chya luv how dry & wrinkly my hands get in the Tucson desert? It’s a thing of beauty!)

Fuschite is a type of mica (variation of Muscovite) & you can see it’s a sea-foam green color (in the above photo).

Zoisite is a totally different mineral…(the most expensive form of Zoisite is Tanzanite!) and it’s a deeper sparkly green color usually accompanied by some black amphibole hornblende (shown below).

[caption id="attachment_19720" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Amphibole Hornblende[/caption]

***Spotting those black dots of amphibole hornblende is the easiest way to tell them apart if the differences in the green hue are iffy.***

Now that you’re in the know… it’s pretty easy to tell the difference, right?

Just wanted to set the geological record straight on that one. 😉
Pink/ Purple Chalcanthite
This, Crystal Hottie, is a straight up lab-created FAKE.

I spotted these all over the place at 2017’s Tucson Gem & Mineral Show. They seemed to be the new HOT ITEM this year. BOOOO!

Small natural Chalcanthite crystals are actually a natural by-product of dry area copper mining (will usually be a smallish bit of blue/green crust). It usually forms on the mine walls due to acidic surface waters interacting with the copper veins & can be found in copper mines located in Arizona, Greece & France.

I’ve not personally worked with it so I don’t have much to say about the metaphysical aspects of this crystal in its natural form. However, the natural blue crystals would be ideal for harmonizing with the throat chakra light wavelength. If you try it out in that way, please let me know in the comments below!

These larger pink or purple (or even neon blue) fake towers are easily grown in tubs from a hydrated copper sulfate… and are potentially TOXIC.

This person was selling theirs online as “Rose Quartz”!!! REALLY?! ***that one pisses me off!***

Super-Dye-Saturated Quartz
I’ve seen this stuffs for a number of years at the gem shows and thought it looked obviously dyed…

But, apparently, it ain’t so obvious…

I heard lots of comments from people walking by them (again at the most recent Tucson Gem Show) …oooh-ing & ahhh-ing over it & wondering how all those pretty colors got in there from the Earth.

**cringe**

NO, I don’t say anything or bother to correct them. I’m not super forward like that. If someone asks for my opinion, I’ll give it. But usually, I just keep my mouth shut. However, here on my blog, I have an open forum! So, I’m here once again to burst the fun glitter-filled rainbow unicorn bubble…
These quartz clusters are saturated with dye.
And be forewarned: the dye wears, washes off or fades quite quickly too!

I already talked about dyed quartz agate here so I won’t spend any more time on that in this post.
Always use your common sense & the best protection from this is to be well-informed yourself.

**Please SHARE this info with other Crystal Hotties so that we all stay in-the-know & well-informed. No duping us with FAKES!!!!**
Do your thing
If you choose to work with man-made crystals & you enjoy them just fine or it’s been working for you…as I always say:
“keep on ‘truckin’”. Don’t change a thing!
I just want us all to have the geo-knowledge first. Then you can make an informed decision regarding how you choose to use these “stones”.

And as always, the moral of the story here is…Buyer Beware: Who are you buying from? Are they reputable? Do they know what they’re talking about? Are you doing your own due diligence & research? The best way to protect yourself is education.

You got this Crystal Hottie!  We all love the beautiful jewels that mama earth creates & you don’t know what you don’t know…until you know better.  So, I hope you enjoyed this new info and have learned something new.  Have you seen any of these or new fakes that you sleuth-ed out recently?  I’d love to hear in the comments below!

Crystal Blessings,
