Crystals for Autumn Equinox

I REALLY LOVE this time of year! But I think I say that every time the seasons change. I get such a charge from the seasonal cycles.

The Autumn Equinox (or Spring Equinox for those in the Southern Hemi) is now upon us and for the purposes of this blog post I’m going to stick to the Autumn aspects, but if you’re from Down Under or just plain interested, you can read my classic blog post on Spring Equinox here.

Some Science, Of Course!

So, before I get to the crystals, a bit o’ science on the Equinox stuffs for a sec. I can’t help myself! This year’s Autumn (or Fall) Equinox lands on Friday, September 22.

There are 2 equinoxes each year; in September and March. Because of the tilt of our planet on our axis, we’re usually getting more sun on one hemisphere than on the other, but there are 2 times/year (Spring and Autumn Equinox) when we get pretty much equal amounts of sunlight on both hemi’s, so our night and day are of equal length everywhere on Mama Earth. So cool!

My Honey Calcite Crystal Mining Experience

Crystals in Florida?

Honey Calcite Mine

You know I went a long time thinking that there were no crystals to be found in my home state of Florida b/c its too geologically young & for most of its history it’s been mostly underwater as part of a shallow sea bed. It wasn’t until about 33.9 million to 23 million years ago that sea levels dropped and Florida finally emerged from the sea.

I know, I know. That sounds like a hella long time ago, but compared to most other places, that’s relatively recently.

But a few years ago I discovered that just ain’t so! There are indeed crystals to be found in Florida.

Florida has huge limestone deposits leftover from the Pliocene & Pleistocene Era of Florida’s past… back when it was still living under a large shallow ocean…& that era has left behind large 2 million year old fossilized clam shells encrusted with honey calcite in Ft. Drum, FL.

During the early Pleistocene era, this was the location of the Atlantic shoreline.

On to Ft. Drum!

Calcite comes in many colors and a while ago … Read More

Are crystals alive?

Are our beloved crystals ALIVE?

Are there living “entities” in crystals?

Do they have consciousness?

Are they having a life experience?

Is it like a conscious being, the crystal itself?

are-crystals-alive

My opinion is that, yes, they have a form of consciousness. It may not be in the same way we experience or understand that but, yes.

We may even apply some sort of “consciousness” to all matter…

“there is a quality of life and intelligence to all matter. The living universe.” ~ Giordano Bruno (1548-1600), cosmological theorist, philosopher, mathematician and poet, burned at the stake due to his controversial views and heresy. 🙁

In fact, number 1 of the 7 Hermetic Laws is this: Hermetic Law of Mind; all is mind and everything is energy. That’s the very point I’m trying to drive home here.

Now, I come at this from a very scientific point of view & background due to my analytical mind, education & former work. I’m always looking for the how and the why and then I really like to focus in on the available science that may back up my theory & find the common threads… because it gives … Read More

Moldavite: Out of this World?

So is moldavite from outer space?

Ahhh, dreamy cosmic greeny moldavite. You’ve heard so much about it, or maybe you haven’t. My goal in teaching about crystals is to give you the metaphysical properties (this may vary somewhat from person to person b/c not all of us experience frequencies in the same way) and always back it with whatever science is available too, then I try to throw some FUN into it. 🙂

Moldavite Science

Moldavite is a type of rare green colored tektite. What are tektites you say? They’re naturally formed small glass rocks that most geologists believe were formed by the impact of meteorites on Earth. Being glass means these are not technically crystals nor minerals at all, but rocks.

These are black tektites:

Black tektites like these are found on Mother Earth within a narrow equatorial belt around Thailand, Australia, Vietnam & the Philippines. The strongest scientific origin theories state that they took a very fast trip through the atmosphere while they were still molten & then landed on Earth, SPLAT!…little gifts for us to discover later.  So basically, this theory states that its natural glass created from the immense heat … Read More
