Are Crystals 💎 Too Trendy? 📈 Is That Good or Bad?

Hibiscus Moon Everyday/Personal Stuffs 5 Comments

Are crystals trendy? Well…trendy is defined as “Very fashionable or up to date in style or influence.” Style and influence aren’t necessarily what we’re looking for concerning our crystals though is it? However, we can see that there is a very clear crystal trend forming. They’re in every home goods store you can think of I’ve seen uninspiring displays of healing bracelets in Target and even Walmart.

Even prominent YouTubers have started hopping on the crystal bandwagon lately. Beyond social media, you’ll even find companies like Goop (Gwyneth Paltrow’s company) displaying entire crystal sections. Robert Redford’s company Sundance also had a crystal gift set for a Mother’s Day promotion they were doing. So circling back to the overarching question is this good or bad? What kind of energy does this bring to the table? Also, we have to consider … because so many companies and influencers are inserting themselves into this space, we can expect an impact on the supply and demand of individual crystals.

The Positives of The Crystal Trend 📈
There are indeed positives that this type of trend can bring. For example, it’s allowing the world of crystal healing to be more acceptable in the general publics eyes. I’m sure many of you have experienced people having a relatively closed mind on the subject of crystal healing in the past. I’ve had some students share stories about their families not quite understanding or accepting the inclusion of crystals in someone’s daily lifestyle.

So yes some people may be coming to crystals because of their favorite influencer or celebrity. However, they’re still connecting with a higher form of self regardless. Which is a beautiful thing, because crystals are subconscious influencers, and they help us create unity within our consciousness. Now that all being said crystals are still more impactful when there is an intention behind using them. You’re going to get the most significant result; you’re going to be squeezing out every bit of potential from those crystals when your intention is in alignment with the vibrational frequency of the crystals that you’re working with.

Perhaps another positive is this becoming a conversation starter for people. As a result of the emerging crystal trend, people naturally become more curious. They’re asking themselves, “do these things really work?” I see that exact question all the time on my YouTube videos, and from there they come over to my website and read a little bit more about it. Would this have happened otherwise if crystals weren’t such a trend at the moment?
The Science Behind Crystals 🔬
Now, keep in mind, I’m barely going to scratch the surface here. I go into much more detail on this subject in my Certified Crystal Healer Course. Our body has a dominant or average vibrational frequency. I say average because every one of our organs has a different vibrational frequency, so all added up and taken together. We have an average vibrational frequency, but it’s not very stable. The reason for this is we are not crystalline. We might be headed towards that in an evolutionary sense, but we are not predominantly crystalline.

Our bodies average vibrational frequency can also fluctuate as a result of everyday stress. Now, it’s important to realize that our entire universe, or the multiverse, is made up of pure energy and vibration. Everything in it, everything you can see, everything you cannot see, everything that science can measure, everything science cannot measure. Even your thoughts and emotions are made of pure energy and vibration. To help illustrate this allow me to reference a very popular formula created by the great Einstien. E=mc^2, the E stands for energy, M stands for matter, or mass, C squared is the speed of light. However, don’t get hung up just yet on what I refer to as “mathematical voodoo.” The point I want to illustrate here is that energy equals mass and vice versa.

Crystals and Their Unique Vibrational Frequency 🔮
So crystals are mass (or matter) which equals energy. What makes them different though compared to every other thing in the universe, is they have an exceptional kind of energy. Crystals, like the fluorite sphere I’m so fond are composed of a very special kind of energy. It is important to note however that a crystal has vibrations just like everything else does.  The more evolved the consciousness or the energetic amplitude of the vibrational frequency of a certain being or object, the more influential it is. Which means the more it will entrain the energy around it.

As I said earlier different forms of matter and energy vibrate at different vibrational frequencies. The different organs in our body have different vibrational frequencies. These different frequencies depend on lots of different variables. Now, a crystal has a very specific molecular composition. Those molecules establish the size of the crystal, the thickness of the crystal, and the color of the crystal.  When crystals are created specifically for use within a laboratory to be used for various electronics, it’s important to take into account the crystals specific vibrational frequency. So crystals are highly influential due to their highly ordered atomic structure.

Crystals are also very different from us because of the highly structured state they’re in. Even our universe is based on energetic tetrahedrons. Did you know that? Video game programmers or creators center their video game models on tetrahedrons.  The molecules of a crystal are arranged in a fixed repeating geometric pattern. Meaning they’re geometrically perfect and because of that they have the lowest possible state of disorganization. Crystals easily maintain their dominant vibrational frequency, unlike us. So the crystals have the unique ability to influence the energies around them in a very beneficial way.

Let me know in the comments below if you find the crystal trend to be negative or positive. Do you think it’s good to be able to find crystals in department stores? Or bad?  I would also love to hear your thoughts on the science behind crystals and their vibrational frequencies! 😄

How to Make a Healthy Crystal Candle | DIY

Hibiscus Moon Everyday/Personal Stuffs, Videos 10 Comments

Today I want to talk to you about my new idea for candles that I’ve been using lately… Healthy Crystal Candles, that is.

Here’s the deal guys …

I love candles.

I used to love ♥ Yankee candles and other highly scented ones like those. I was like a Yankee candle junkie.

And then I learned that they were bad for you in several ways but I still kept using them because I loved the scents so so much. I knew they were putting black soot in the air, I knew they had the lead wicks, chemicals and all.

It’s all shit, guys. You really don’t want to be breathing that stuff.

So I quit Yankee candles altogether about 7 years ago.

Those large candle companies and the enticing aromas; they know what chemical scents to put in there to stimulate parts of your brain that make you feel good… but it’s making your body feel bad.  I think inherently it might on the surface make you feel good, but really in the long-term, it’s messing with you energetically and mentally, not to mention physically.
People are wondering why so many have so many health issues that are going on right now, diseases, illnesses, cancers. We are just loaded up with toxins in our environment, every which way if you don’t get hyper-aware about it.
Just say NO to those highly scented, wonderfully scented candles. NO.

Sidenote: If you’re needing a bit of help to kick the toxic-candle habit … Did you know you can use crystals to help you bust bad habits? I wrote all about it over here.

Watch my video above and let me show you what I came up with. I was looking for non-petroleum, non-toxic, yet well-scented candles with a high-vibe energy and there are lots of options out there on the market, but you’ll notice the price tag can be hefty.

Soy is an option, you can go with soy if you’re okay with that but, I don’t know, there’s something about soy, most of the soy is GMO, I’ve heard, so I’m not loving the idea of burning something that’s genetically modified in my environment if I can avoid that. So I leaned towards something we’ve been using since ancient times: Beeswax candles.

I really wanted something that was 100% pure and healthy through and through; all cotton wick, with nothing in the wick that’s going to make it last longer like lead or any of that. I also needed it to not be a naked candle but encased in glass because I tend to forget candles sometimes and leave them burning. Just in case!

I have a little altar in my sacred space that I’ll often have candles burning on and sometimes I’ll just up & leave my space and I’ve done it before where the candles burned all night. Ooops!
Healthy Crystal Candles ~ quick and easy
So this is what I do:

Go online and just get a beeswax candle that’s already put in a glass container with a cotton wick. Just go to Google and type that and there are so many different sellers that have them, a lot of people on Etsy, you can go on Amazon and find them; just look for a beeswax candle with a cotton wick. This is the one I’ve been loving lately. When the candle burns down, you can just buy the wax refill for them and reuse the glass! ♥ that!

They’re not very beautiful. They’re not going to be toxically dyed bright colors to match the season and all of that but here’s what I like to do. I’ll take the candle and add some loose leaf incense using natural organic herbs. You can mix up a blend depending on what season it is.  In the video,  I made this one for Spring, for Ostara, so I used it all the way through to May 1st, but you can create a blend for whatever season you want and just sprinkle the incense in there right on top.

Incense Herbal Blend

Here’s a blend you can use for the current Holiday Season:

  • dragon’s blood resin
  • clove, whole or powdered
  • sandalwood powder

So I’ll sprinkle that on top of the candle. Every time I go to re-light the candles, I re-anoint them with a bit of fresh incense, and as the candle burns down, the wax burns down, it takes the energetics; the vibrational frequencies of this incense down and imbues it into the candle.

Essential Oils

[This step is optional.]

Then I’ll take my essential oils; a nice Holiday-themed blend would be:

  • Cinnamon
  • Clove
  • Sandalwood
  • OnGuard ( a doTERRA blend)

(Lots of protection vibes with these specific oils.)

I’ll take a drop of the oil on my fingertip and I’ll just rub it along the rim before lighting the candle. This is anointing your candles with the energetics of whatever it is you want to bring in. Please be cautious with the oils, use no more than 1 drop and do this BEFORE you light the flame near your candle. I’m just sharing with you what I do. If you’re feeling uneasy about the oils then simply skip this step.

If you want to learn more about the specific doTERRA essential oils I like to use, you can join my essential oils Facebook group over here.

Crystal Chips

Then I go for the crystal-power to further amp up the vibrational frequencies. Have you ever seen those little crystal chip bottles in stores and wondered,
“What can I do with those? What can I use them for?”
Sometimes they come in a set. Well, I do all kinds of crafty things with them! For this candle crafting, you just pull the cork out and sprinkle them right in, again, BEFORE you light the candle.

Here’s a crystal pairing suggestion for a  seasonal November-vibe candle:

  • Topaz for setting boundaries, clarifying and preparing your intentions as we settle into winter
  • Amethyst for protection and purifying negativity from your space

Then it starts to look really pretty from the top view, really dressed up! You’ll see. 😉

As the candle burns down, the oil will heat up and activate and the crystals and the incense will harmonize and sink down into the wax. So the more you use the candle, the more infused it gets. And then when it completely burns down to the bottom, you’re going to have really nothing left but just a thin layer of the wax and the crystals there. And sometimes the wax is so thin I can pick the crystals out with a pair of tweezers and reuse them. A lot of you recycle the ends of the candles (stick it in the freezer for an hour or so and the last bit o’ wax will pop right out!) so then you can just melt it, recycle it all up and do something else with it.

It’s a quick and easy DIY. And your space is going to smell really good and it’s just going to be lovely.  I’ll usually have two candles like that going on my altar. It’s a quick and easy way to infuse your candles with crystals, crystal energy, and other vibrational frequency energy.

I hope that this sparked some crafty ideas for you!  Will you give this healthy candle dressing a try? Do you get crafty with crystals & candles, herbs, and oils?  If you have any ideas of your own to share, please post it in the comments below. 🙂

Watermelon Tourmaline Benefits: The Healing Power of Watermelon Tourmaline

Hibiscus Moon Crystal Goodness, Everyday/Personal Stuffs 29 Comments

I am so excited to tell you all about Watermelon Tourmaline + share my new watermelon crystal treasure with you in this quickie-vid…

You’ve probably heard me talk about black tourmaline and reference it often (b/c it’s the bomb diggity!) for grounding and protection in many aspects of daily life.

It’s a must for your crystal healing tool box!

I’ve also blogged about pink tourmaline before as 1 of the recent stones being faked in certain markets.  If you want to educate yourself about the fakes you can click over here to learn more about that.

Tourmaline, in general, has some amazing scientific properties.

But…today we’re talkin’ Watermelon Tourmaline…

Healing Properties
What’s so wonderful about this type of tourmaline? Well, let me tell you:

  • it speaks to the heart chakra, helping to clear out blockages & balance; doing this on 2 separate, yet related frequencies; both the green & the pink light frequency; making it doubly effective for balancing this chakra. **A watermelon tourmaline pendant can be conveniently worn over the heart for ongoing work & healing effects.**
  • note the sometimes presence of white “rind” between the pink & green; helps to keep energies of all kinds balanced
  • it’s a gemstone that invites in compassion
  • helps to dampen excessive or extreme emotions through calming
  • and it’s known to awaken and/or attract love

Healers & light workers of all kinds often turn to watermelon tourmaline due to its therapeutic versatility in healing so many different types of physical (mostly directly dealing with the heart) as well as emotional aspects. You can use it in:

  • body layouts
  • meditations
  • crystal grids
  • creating gem elixirs or essences for various purposes
  • emanate energy into a space
  • & of course, jewelry

The Thrill of the Hunt
I’ve been waiting quite a while to get 1 of these babies. You know… to find the “just right” piece for myself. I’ve even hunted for year after year in Tucson… looking for it, but never found one that really plucked my guitar strings. So I waited.

And wouldn’t you know… with all my trips out to the Tucson Gem Shows, I ended up finding this piece in a local rock shop not too far from my home. (I showcase my special piece in the above video).
**you never know where you’ll find your crystal treasures so never stop looking & don’t settle!**
[caption id="attachment_2110" align="aligncenter" width="374"] Simply scrumptious & juicy unsliced watermelon tourmaline!!! Photo by Rob Lavinsky @ irocks.com[/caption]

Oh yes…I’ve had other “watermelons” that I’ve settled for in the past…most much smaller than my PIECE. 💚
Geo-Aspects
Watermelon tourmaline can be found in Sri Lanka, Brazil, South Africa, Mozambique & Madagascar.

Tourmaline is actually known as the “chameleon” of the gem-world due to all the various colors & hues it comes in. Virtually every color & healing aspect you can think up…there’s a tourmaline for that.

They can also come in what is known as “Bi-color” or “Parti-colored”…when they express as 2 or more colors in a single crystal!

What I was looking for was the characteristic green rind followed by the white around the central pink tourmaline going almost all the way around. When the green & white rind goes all the way around perfectly…that really drives up the price due to it being aesthetically pleasing & much more rare…so be prepared.

That’s what makes it “watermelon tourmaline”…is the pink ruby-like center, the white + then the outer green rind.

I’m so excited to finally get a piece that felt right for me.

Plus there’s a beautiful hexagon in the center! Sacred-Geo Deliciousness.

Have you ever seen Watermelon Tourmaline?  Worn it as crystal jewelry or worked with a piece in your practice?  Please tell me in the comments below. 🙂

Crystal Work for an Attitude of Gratitude

Hibiscus Moon Everyday/Personal Stuffs 23 Comments

This post is written by our beloved Sparkle Team member; Crystal Content Manager, Lisa D’Arrigo. I am so happy that Lisa volunteered to take over the blog today. She has such wonderful insights to share with us here.

(sidenote: She’s a total style icon too. Check her out!)

Jean – Baptiste Massieu said
“Gratitude is the memory of the heart.”
Gratitude, appreciation, thankfulness all flows from the heart.  It’s the simplest yet most powerful of notions.

It’s the pulse of life… right up there with Prana, Shakti, Chi.  And it undoubtedly opens the doors to greater love & joy.

It clears the pathway, it raises your vibration.  It sparks wonder in the small moments, love in all things. ❤

At the same time, it’s possible it can be dangerously liberating  … it could make you smile & laugh A LOT, burst into song, dance with wild abandon, fly your freak flag.

In my life, this journey, this goal of living from a place of gratitude started many years ago when I was learning about the Law of Attraction.  The LOA teachings gave me insight into how I could make this glorious life even better by using my thoughts to steer the course.

So, I started to notice my thoughts and change them when needed, to change my perspective.  I bought a journal to make a gratitude journal and wrote down a list of things every day that I’m grateful for.

And it’s become crystal clear that after you start to live each day from that heart space, over time it just becomes part of who you are… of how you live.

Now I find myself waking up and having immediate thankful thoughts about that very moment of awakening; the possibility of a new day, the warm security of home, the very breath we breathe.    It’s no longer a conscious effort.  It’s as natural as breathing. (and no, it doesn’t happen like this every single day, after all, I do have teenagers in the house!  But I’m going for a majority of days here) 😉
Cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude
Here are a few ideas on how you might spark an attitude of gratitude.  In my experience, these small but meaningful tools & practices help cultivate & grow appreciation, stoking that heart fire to greater love.
Crystals
Choose a crystal or pick a few different ones as your talisman to tap into appreciation. Carry it with you, keep it on your desk, under your pillow, in your pocket or your purse.   Know that your crystal selections might be different from mine since it’s a very personal choice & experience based on your story & your intuition.

For me there are 3 crystals that radiate gratitude:

  • Pietersite
  • Green Aventurine
  • Larimar

Pietersite

I’ve always had a connection with Pietersite.  Maybe it’s my fiery nature, my Italian & Irish roots that are drawn in by this storm element. 🙂

Whatever the reason, gazing into or mediating with this beauty has always inspired a sense of awe and gratitude. It naturally awakens a profound feeling of appreciation for the beauty of mother earth and life in general.

Green Aventurine

A few years ago, I traveled to Sofia, Bulgaria to join a group of people from around the world for an artful, magical & musical yoga experience.  I threw my hat in the ring & was invited to film a series of yoga DVD’s with the amazing international yoga teacher, Micheline Berry.

Before I went, I kept thinking about green aventurine.  That I really needed a piece of Green Aventurine! For some reason I felt this very strongly (and I’ve learned to pay head to those feelings…you know?)  So,  I looked for a piece, but I couldn’t find one that fit the bill.  My local rock shop didn’t have the right piece for me at that time and I didn’t have time to order anything online.

So I flew off…and the day after arriving in Bulgaria, some new friends and I were strolling through an outdoor market in downtown Sofia.  We were checking out the scene & wares for sale.  And there, I found the perfect little piece of green aventurine.   It was such a magical moment!  The most perfect outcome and I’ll always be grateful for that gypsy market. I remember thinking “look how this amazing universe works!”  and how deeply thankful I was for that very moment.  Now, that stone is a constant talisman of possibilities and deep appreciation.

Larimar

Ahh, this special stone.  I’m filled with awe & gratitude for this one and the peace and calm it brings.

It was the first crystal to give me a super powerful jolt of physical sensation. It was so wild!  It really blew my mind, that first stunning energetic experience.  Now,  whenever I need a reminder of all the blessings that surround us, the ones that we cannot see, the miracles we may not notice; of all that is unseen, I go back to this stone.

Whenever I need some perspective or an attitude adjustment, I reach for larimar.

The piece I work with most isn’t the finest quality larimar.  It’s riddled with lots of red hematite in it.  But when I found it in the Caribbean I knew this was the stone for me.  It took me a while to find it…to look in many shops on that small island, beyond all the beautiful & glittery jewelry, because I wanted a piece specifically to meditate with.  Once I found this slab, it was way overpriced, so I bartered like crazy and brought it home.
Meditate
You can grab one of your fav stones that help you to connect with your grateful heart or pick up a mala that you might have to dive deep inside.

As you drop into meditation, adding mantra to your experience you could say ‘So Hum’ which means  ‘I am’.

You’d recite ‘So’ on the inhale and ‘Hum’ on the exhale. Repeating it with each breathe.  Soft and easy.

If you use your mala beads, you can recite one mantra per bead to complete a round of 108.  You don’t even need to say ‘I am grateful’, just ‘I am’ and try to feel it in your heart.  Feel the gratitude as you give yourself this gift of meditation time.

If a seated meditation is not your thing, try a walking meditation.  Go for a walk in the woods, hug a tree and say thank you 3 times.  Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

Or find a labyrinth or a beach in your area to walk it out.  You can always recite mantra while you’re walking to tap into your heart space.

Another mantra for gratitude is ‘Dhanyavad’ which translates to something like gratitude, thanks, or thank you.
Journal
This exercise is so simple & truly powerful.  Just grab yourself a journal and literally write out a list.  Just a list, no reasons needed, of the many things you are thankful for.

It can be absolutely anything, because this list is just for you.  For sending your thanks out to the Universe and basically flexing your gratitude muscle.

It’s like you’re filling up a wellspring here & I think you’ll find after time, that the stream of consciousness just flows and the more you do this, the longer the list will grow and the more you’ll have to be thankful for.

This is also a helpful exercise to reflect back on.  Looking back and glancing through your lists, you might find something you listed multiple times, like a message from your heart showing you what gives you the most joy.
The Power of Scent
Sweet sweet essential oils.

The nectar of aroma.  People that don’t know have always joked with me … “are essential oils really essential?”  Why YES – LOL, of course they are!

For me the scent of gratitude is Ylang Ylang essential oil.  Ylang Ylang aroma instills a deep, soulful & reverent connection to all that is.

Just like with the crystals, it won’t be the same for everyone.  You’ll likely find or already have your own essential oil that you connect with…an aroma that awakens a sense of gratitude in you.

So work with that oil, wear it, anoint your mala or your crystals with it, bathe with it, diffuse it.  Whatever method works best for you, do that to bring that scent into your life & ignite appreciation.
Seva
Give back.  Be of service. Volunteering, or donating, whatever form it takes, whatever you can do, just do it.

Being of service has always been a big part of my life, as far back as I can remember.  You, anyone, can start today.   It’s never too late and the world is always in need of kindness and generosity of spirit.

For some, monetary donations are the way to go and that’s fantastic & so needed worldwide.  But understand that time is also money and giving your time is both valuable & fulfilling.  Share your gifts.  Teach a free yoga class, help with a beach clean-up, work a crisis hotline, fill sandbags during a flood, help someone with their groceries, volunteer in a soup kitchen, join the Peace Corps.  There are so many options & endless opportunities.

Find a way to be of service, that fills you up.  It’s important & it helps keep things real.  It helps keep you aware of all the good that is already in your life and helps you remember to count your blessings.

Hopefully 1 or a few of these ideas give you some inspiration to ignite gratitude in your life.  I know I constantly need reminders!   Little things to help me get back in the flow and stay there for a longer period of time.
