Why Rose Quartz, Blue Calcite & Blue Lace Agate are the New Black

Hibiscus Moon chakras, Crystals, self love, stress relief, Videos 31 Comments

Fashion. What color is the new black now?

One day you’re in the next day you’re out. Pffft!

I don’t have time for that shizzle…I just grab the next t-shirt up for rotation in my drawer, match some bottoms to it, pair up some crystal jewelry I’m vibing with for the day & I’m good to go!

BUT today…I’m going to dabble in the fashion world again while I present my annual Color-of-the-Year video, where I match-up a crystal to Pantone’s Color of the Year!

Previous Years

  • 2013: Emerald
  • 2014: Radiant Orchid; Sugilite + Lepidolite
  • 2015: Marsala; Rubilite + Ruby

This year Pantone made it more exciting because they chose two colors.

Drum roll please…
The colors of the year for 2016 are Serenity and Rose Quartz!

Rose Quartz + Serenity
The purpose of the color of the year is to “set the tone” for the coming year. Pantone has stated that the color they choose,
“has always been an integral part of how a culture expresses the attitudes and emotions of the times.”
Well…that’s a bit rich for my taste…but I think it’s safe to say it sets the direction & tone for fashion & style for the year…if you’re into that sort of thing.

So of course, yep…this is a whole marketing & branding thing for Pantone, but color is such a big part of the visual properties of crystals that I cannot help but jump onto this bandwagon!
Serenity is a beautiful sky blue color that’s a really light blue…almost bordering on lavender.

Now, I actually chose two crystals to embody the energy of the Serenity color.
Blue Lace Agate

Blue Lace Agate is a pale blue gorgeous “lacy” layered-looking type of agate; hence the name.

Agates are generally characterized by the bands that you’ll see in them. It’s actually a banded chalcedony; a quartz mass made up of submicroscopic quartz particles set up in fibrous layers (those are the bands you see) that also may have other inclusions giving it various colors.

Blue Lace Agate Characteristics

  • a type of quartz, all agates are a type of quartz
  • same Mohs Hardness as quartz; a 7, so it’s relatively hard.  You’ll find them in jewelry & anything that can kind of withstand being worn a lot, ya know…that might get banged up or something or worn as a bracelet
  • a throat chakra stone
  • all about calm, gentle, serene energy, clarity
  • Best for calm + clear communication, about finding your voice but in a very calm way

Blue Calcite

Calcites come in every color in the rainbow…pretty much. Plus, calcites as a group in general, are great for balancing hormones. If you want to know more about that, I have blog post that I wrote all about that here.

Blue Calcite Characteristics

  • another throat chakra stone
  • great for thyroid balancing (whether it’s hypo or hyper thyroid) because an out of whack thyroid has to do with hormone imbalances (please read my cautions & disclaimers here before using crystals on medical issues)
  • spiritually calming + soothing as well as emotionally calming + soothing so it’s a great stone to meditate with
  • Also enhances psychic ability & assists with astral travel
  • 3 on the Mohs Hardness scale, so much softer than the Blue Lace Agate….meaning not a good idea for jewelry

The reason it’s so “soft” in comparison to quartz is b/c calcite is a Calcium Carbonate. Calcium carbonate is what the shells & hard parts of  organisms are made of. Yeah…without our precious calcites most of Earth’s organisms would not even exist! That’s the reason why calcites are so abundant on our planet. So in this case, life giving rise to a crystal.
Rose Quartz
Rose Quartz feels like one of those crystals that we all know quite well. It’s 1 of the first ones that many of us purchase or that we’ve worked with or that we learn about. ❤ Am I right about that?

Rose Quartz Characteristics:

  • a type of Quartz that almost always shows up in masses. (BUT…sometimes you’ll find rare very expensive pieces that do grow in points and…wow if you have one of those; hold on to that baby because it’s worth quite a bit, they’re very rare. *See photo below.*)
  • Can vary in color, intensity and hue; sometimes they can be very deeply pink colored & sometimes they’re very pale so that they’re barely pink… and sometimes they’re right in between.
  • Rose quartz is very abundant & come in big huge masses.
  • The stone of love; all kinds of love, whether we’re talking about romantic love or love for family members, pets and friends, compassionate love or even self-love; this is the stone that encourages kindness, compassion and love of all sorts.♥
  • Works very well with the heart chakra for emotional heart issues, spiritual heart issues as well as physical heart issues.

Rose Quartz is an all time sparkly fav & if you don’t have some in your collection, I highly recommend that you do get some.

Do you have any of these stones in your crystal collection? OR do you have any other suggestions to match up with “Serenity”? I’d love to hear what you think of my picks in the comments below. 🙂

Are you Listening to the Signs from the Universe?

Hibiscus Moon chakras, creativity, Crystal Healer, Crystal Healing, interview 14 Comments

Hi Crystal Hottie!

Hey! Hey! It’s time for 1 of my favorite types of blog posts. I love to shine the Jeweler’s Loupe on 1 of our own with my sparkly series of Crystal Healer Interviews. By doing this we all get some  fresh, new crystal insight from others in the Hibiscus Moon Universe that are living & breathing the same crystal path.  Exciting stuffs!

I’m so grateful & honored to have an entire worldwide network of Hibiscus Moon Certified Crystal Healers & Advanced Crystal Masters to tap into for these amazingly special blog posts.

Today you’re going to meet a very talented & spirited  HMCA Advanced Crystal Master, Tree Mckenna Cinque. I’m so blessed to have worked with Tree as she is also part of our Hibiscus Moon Crystal Academy Faculty as one of our beloved ACM teachers, sharing her crystal singing bowl expertise with us.

Tree’s message with us here in this blog is about listening to & honoring the signs from the Universe while being your authentic self.

She shares with us insights about her powerful, life changing experience with Pietersite + Moldavite,  how her success comes from letting her creativity shine and allowing the abundance to flow + how she works with collective group energy to manifest with crystal grids.   From the moment I met her, I knew we had someone special on our hands. Her energy is contagious & so very uplifting. You’ll see. 🙂

Here’s Tree!

What brought you to the world of Crystal Healing?
Well, first I would like to say that my involvement with the Hibiscus Moon Crystal Academy has literally Rocked My World…in a great way!!!!

I had always been interested in crystals from an early age. I remember digging on the side of my house in Queens with the neighborhood kids and finding Pyrite and Mica. We thought we found pirate treasure. What kid didn’t do that? LOL.

What really propelled me to study crystal healing was that I basically didn’t know enough about the glittery toolbox that I had. I kept amassing crystals, but did not know their uses. I would run around Greenwich Village in the early 1990’s, spending my entire $200 paycheck, buying Moldavite (of all things) & Record Keepers. All I did with them was place them on my windowsills….and allow 20 years to pass before I finally was ready to embrace their magic!

Crystals truly ARE magical.

They are facilitators, just by being in your presence.
However, they only work when you are ready to work with them.
Prior to my crystal and sound healing career path, I went back to school for interior design at 40. While working at a Healthcare design firm, I developed a passion for biophilic design. That is just a fancy word for incorporating nature into the built environment for healing. My concepts of using clay paint that emitted negative ions and natural stone tiles for spa-like serenity in hospice centers fell on deaf ears.  Interior Design, Publishing, Public Relations…None of my jobs made my soul sing and I kept getting sick. Shingles was one of the reasons why I am on this crystal healing path now.

Each time I veered from the healing arena, the Universe reminded me (with a swift kick) that I was on the wrong path.

When my husband suggested I follow my life-long metaphysics passion, the doors magically opened up. It was then that I found The Hibiscus Moon Crystal Academy. After Stephanie invited me to be a guest on a Google Hangout, there was no turning back. I knew I had found my life’s purpose. I am forever grateful.

What crystal has had the biggest effect on you?
Actually crystals; plural. There are two. I had a crystal awakening.

My life literally changed when I began wearing Pietersite and Moldavite together.

[caption id="attachment_18298" align="aligncenter" width="255"] African Pietersite[/caption]

About one year after I graduated from design school, I began wearing a large Moldavite on my neck. I had read Robert Simmons’ Moldavite book and paid no mind to his warning that once Moldavite comes into your energy field, the carpet may get pulled out from under you and change your path.

[caption id="attachment_1576" align="aligncenter" width="570"] Moldavite[/caption]

Out of the blue, I woke up and decided I did not want to do design work anymore…after four years of study! Shortly after, I began wearing Pietersite with the Moldavite, I found Hibiscus Moon and the rest is history.
Pietersite helps you find your life’s purpose and Moldavite makes it happen!
It puts the pedal to the metal and off you go. This is my trademark stone combo.
What do others in your life think about the path you are on?
People think I “march to the beat of my own drum” –a chakra drum, of course, as I do sound healing work. I wouldn’t have it any other way!

My path has taken many exciting turns and I attribute it all to the effect the crystals have had on my energy field. I was strengthened.

Because of my crystal training, I have become a Vibrational Frequency Shifter (my new title) and I have helped empower so many people. I hold crystal bowl sound healing group sessions, private Reiki sessions, and Tibetan bowl healing sessions as well.

I have several Facebook groups on crystals and empowerment. I love to teach and run a business page called Crystal Harmonic Healing and groups called The Stone Snob and TreEvolve. (We never heal; we evolve!) In addition, I have developed an awesome tribe that participates in my almost monthly crystal grids. Many HMCA graduates participate in my crystal grids and, collectively, we help manifest our wishes.

It is a ton of work, but coaching, sending Reiki and other mojo to my group members and constantly charging the grids, really helps create desired outcomes. That is a very large part of my business. Facebook has been huge for me. I am so fortunate for my crystal tribe.

This path has extended beyond crystals…because of crystals.

People either think it is so cool or think I’m crazy.

I am doing the whole “Shop, Pray, Love” journey and I don’t care what people think. I am loving life!!

My husband asks when it is going to stop. I say it is just beginning!!
Be your authentic self and let your soul sing!!
What do you think made the biggest difference to you on this path?
Learning the Hows and Whys (thank you Hibiscus Moon) and the science behind how crystals work. Knowing this gave me the confidence to put myself out there.

The other very important thing that made a difference was the belief that the Universe would provide if the path was right. I admit, I was nervous about paying for my crystal certification. Once I committed, the Universe conspired to make it happen. Lose the fear and the worry. The money just started flowing.

My mantra for this:
“The Universe provides financial abundance in my life and I am grateful!”
How do you navigate being a crystal healer and a mama on a daily basis?
My kids grew up with my crystal obsession, so it is not a big deal.

I love it when my daughter calls me from college in cloudy Michigan and says, “Mom, this weather is so depressing and everyone has Seasonal Affective Disorder Syndrome. Please send me some crystals.”  So, off go the Citrine and the Sunstone bracelet.

My entire family is supportive of my crystal “habit.” It makes it easier for them to buy me gifts. 😉
Do any ridicule you for being interested in crystal healing? If so, how do you handle that?
Yes and no.

There will always be people who do not understand what we do with crystals. I have encountered some who are under the false impression that we pray to crystals.

Someone half-jokingly told me she should throw Holy water on me because I was wearing a Moldavite pendant. People just do not understand unless you explain it in simple terms.

I tell people everything on this planet is a gift, no different from food and flowers…or your diamond engagement ring. That usually quiets them. If that doesn’t work, I open my mouth and throw around terms like entrainment and Dominant Oscillary Rate. It leaves people speechless. It is then that they understand that this IS science and I know my shizzle.
What is your go-to crystal for grounding?
I have two.

I recently went to Glastonbury, England on my way to Stonehenge. It is a crystal lover’s dream as there are loads of crystal shops. I found a unique and awesome Smoky Quartz from Mount Sinai, Egypt. Talk about grounding–Holy Moses! (I bet he even had a few.)

The other is Botryoidal Hematite. This stone is an instant grounder.

[caption id="attachment_18299" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Botryoidal Hematite. Rob Lavinsky, iRocks.com – CC-BY-SA-3.0 [CC BY-SA 3.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0)], via Wikimedia Commons[/caption]It bubbles the issues to the surface and then grounds them.
Do you have any advice for anyone who is considering this path?
I learned the expensive way that less is more.

I used to buy every crystal I saw.

I still buy a lot, but now, I am more discriminating about my purchases. I have changed my views and think about the “tools” that would most benefit me and my practice. Sometimes it means that you should wait until you can afford a better grade of crystal.

I really like using Chromotherapy and strengthening the chakras with rays of color. For instance, the Throat Chakra can really benefit from the blue ray emitted by a gem quality Aquamarine. Now, I opt for crystals that are a lil’ pricier, but really get the job done.
What is the primary way you utilize crystals in your practice?
I love to spoil my clients. I work with crystal layouts in all of my Reiki sessions.

Up until recently, I included crystal layouts in my signature crystal bowl sound healing sessions and “lost” a few. I thought it best to honor my stones and use them in smaller venues.

As I mentioned before, I have a “Rocking” following on Facebook who participates in my crystal grids. I am a Silicon Dioxide addict, so I have tons of clear Quartz. I program a stone for each person in my crystal grid. I employ moon phases, Reiki, Sacred Geometry and other mojo to make them ROCK! My grid recipes are kind of like the KFC Recipe, very secret. LOL.

All I know is that they work and the participants are all happy!
From where do you draw inspiration in your crystal practice?
I draw inspiration from all my clients, Facebook followers and fellow crystal healers.

With my clients, I look to find out THEIR needs. To help others, you have to find out people’s issues and address them. It is so rewarding to recommend a stone like Labradorite when someone is experiencing grief… and it makes them feel better.

I am inspired by those I meet on Facebook. The knowledge that people bring to the table is incredible. I am humbled on a daily basis. Everyone has something to offer, and more if they could just remember it. For example, you never know if someone was a healer in a past life!
How did you celebrate or reward yourself once you graduated?
Gee, I am still celebrating years later. Just ask the people in my Facebook groups. Hee hee. This Crystal Sister rewards herself quite often with crystals, crystal bowls and healing goodies to make my practice “off the charts” Tree-Authentic! I am an admitted Crystal-holic! Even the shopkeepers tell me that, but it makes my soul soar!

Crystal Blessings,

How Carnelian is Bringing “Sexy” Back + a FREE Gift for You!

Hibiscus Moon chakras, creativity, Crystal Goodness, Gem Elixirs, Videos 20 Comments

In the crystal world, there’s no other crystal that embodies “sexy” better than carnelian: pure sexy energy!

Does this sound like you these days?

  • tired & drained?
  • poor social skills?
  • deny yourself of pleasures?
  • lack of passion, enthusiasm, excitement?
  • lack of creativity?
  • fear of change?
  • frigidity and/or fear of sex?

Then this is the stone for you!

**Watch my vid here for several to-die-for juicy Carnelian specimens!***

Hey! Are you needing a boost of energy?

Need some Sacral Chakra Balancing? Oh, I’ve got just the thing for you today!

Sacral Chakra is all about juicy creativity, creating life, creating art…creating anything at all.

Putting anything into manifestation-creation mode is all about the Sacral Chakra; very watery, juicy, fertile energy.
And carnelian is our ideal stone to help enhance and/or balance our sacral chakra. It entrains us to the vibrations of physical & mental energy, creation energy!

In fact, if you’re needing energy or vitality of any sort, Carnelian really helps boost that.

It also amplifies our creativity energy; that “take-action energy”. Or if you are just physically tired, you could use a boost of Carnelian energy.

Carnelian is a somewhat translucent, yet vibrantly colored Micro-Crystalline Quartz (aka chalcedony). Click here if you’re not sure how to pronounce that. 🙂

It’s a quartz (silicon dioxide), but it doesn’t grow in the shape of the usual 6-sided Hexagonal Quartz shape with a point, b/c it’s what we call “Micro Crystalline”, meaning that there are teeny-tiny crystals there, but you can only see them under a microscope.  They’re micro; very little, little, mini mini.

It’s usually a deep succulent orange color, getting its color from iron impurities in the quartz. It’s most often a solid (slightly see-through in spots) orange, but it can also be banded like my GORGEOUS Jumbo Jupiter Polished Madagascar Carnelian Sphere below here. *Yep, go ahead & wipe the drool off yer chin.*

CAUTION…Science Lesson Up Ahead!
I have to tell you about this; the other day somebody said, “Oh you pronounce ‘Silicone’ so funny.  You say ‘Silicon’ instead of ‘Silicone’.”

As a former science dept. chair, I cannot resist this teachable moment!

Silicone and silicon are 2 different versions of silicon, the element.

Silicon dioxide is quartz.  Just to give you a little chemistry lesson; silicon is a pure element; 1 molecule of silicon is made of just 1 atom.  A molecule of quartz has 1 atom of silicon + 2 atoms of oxygen = 3 total atoms in 1 molecule of silicon dioxide (quartz).

Silicone (with the “E”) refers to a synthetic silicon compound not found in nature of 2 silicon atoms + 1 oxygen atom mixed with something else to make it a polymer, so it’s different from silicon. Hence the different pronunciations.

  • Here’s how you pronounce “silicon” (no “E” at the end).
  • Here’s how you pronounce “silicone”.

I know I’ve gone too far here for a crystal healing blog, but I just cannot help myself on certain topics!

Back to Carnelian-Fun-Stuff!

When you see layered colors like in the above stone it may also be referred to as an “agate”… due to that translucent banding.  Someone may wonder, “Well, isn’t this Fire Agate and not Carnelian?”

Yeah, it could be named that way. It’s only just a name. I’d say if it’s mostly orange then I would tell you it’s proper carnelian, but even carnelian in its “purest form”, you usually see a bit of white.  The white is just areas of quartz that did not get the iron inclusions.
This one time…
Let me tell you a quick little carnelian story: I left my fav little carnelian tumbled behind in a bowl of Carnelian at an event that I was hosting.  Eeek!

We were doing a Sacral Chakra Circle, and I brought a whole bunch of carnelian stones to give out to the participants.  I had brought my own personal carnelian stone to charge up some carnelian Gem Elixir water that we were using to make Sacral Chakra Smoothies  & using for various exercises.

My personal stone got mixed up in the bowl with all the other carnelians while someone was helping me clean up & I left this 1 behind at the end of the event.

The next day I realized it was missing.

I was like “Oh My, I’ve had that one stone for so long. I hope nobody took it.  I hope it is still there!”

I went back & sifted through the bowl & there was a whole bunch of them to look through.  The person there was like,  “You are never going to find yours. Just take any one.”

Oh no.  They didn’t understand. I was like “No, I am going to find mine.  I know my Carnelian!  This specific one.”

I don’t know all my tumbled stones this well, but this specific 1 has certain markings on it & I would know it anywhere.  No matter what!

Here he is…

You may think all tumbled carnelians look the same, but I’d know this little guy out if a pile of thousands in a hot second! 😉

I’d know those specific markings anywhere; result of meditating/working with it often over the years. A trusted friend indeed. #CrystalBonding
