eclipse season

This blog post was originally published during Eclipse Season several years ago … but you might be here to learn more about eclipse season in general and the crystals to work with.  Read on!  Just keep in mind the dates in this blog do not apply to 2022.

Today we are talking about getting the most out of the eclipse season with crystals! During an eclipse, the sun, the moon and the earth are in perfect alignment. Now we don’t usually get an eclipse every time we have a full moon or new moon. During eclipse season, when we get the three celestial bodies, the sun, moon and earth, in perfect alignment their various types of cosmic energies become aligned or stacked. When that happens, they magnify and amplify each other.

In physics, we call this the principle of superposition. That’s when similar energies easily come into alignment and when they do that, they amplify each other.

A lot of people are sensitive to these types of energetic shifts and can feel them easily. Especially if you’re an empath, Reiki healer, or you do energy work of any kind. So let me ask you…are you feeling it ramping up? If not, you may start to as we get a little bit closer!

Now, eclipses usually happen in pairs, but this time it’s not going to happen that way. We had our first eclipse pair of 2018 last eclipse season (January – February). Now we’re headed into our final season for 2018, so after this eclipse season, we’re done with eclipses for 2018. Eclipses usually occur, like I said, as a solar and a lunar, so the energies are balanced, right? The time in between is a little funky but the energies get balanced by the two eclipses.

Well this time is a trio! It’s actually going to be a sandwiching trio. The lunar eclipse is in the middle and then we have a solar eclipse on either end, so the energy may get a bit wacky. Also, they’re going to be two weeks apart. You’ll barely have time to integrate the energies and recalibrate before the next one hits us. However, we have tools and support within the crystals and other modalities that can help us get us through this type of situation. It’s about riding the energy, not letting the energy wave ride you and topple you all over the place.

The First Eclipse

The first eclipse will be July 13th and it’s a partial solar eclipse. None of these eclipses are going to be like our August eclipse from last Summer where it was an amazing event and most of North America was able to go on a road trip if they wanted to see it. However, the energies are still heightened, and it doesn’t matter if you’re not in a place where you can visually see the eclipse. Just like every full moon or new moon, no matter where you are on the planet we’re all affected by the energies.

It’s about working with the energy of the new moon. This is a time for planting seeds for upcoming plans, setting new intentions, enhanced and amplified intuition. It’s a very yin, feminine, intuitive, right-brained kind of energy. Just like any new moon is. We don’t actually see the moon during a new moon at all though right? This is about the solar, but it’s a new moon event.

Because of that, my favorite crystals to work with during this time are Labradorite, which is closely related to Moonstone. It has that similar blue flash and that iridescent quality. Labradorite is all about tapping into magic, but it’s also quite protective. If you’re feeling like you need some protective vibrational frequencies during this new moon event, then try working with Labradorite!

The other crystal that I like working with during this time is Indigo Gabbro. It’s also known as Mystic Merlinite, but what happens is while Indigo Gabbro can be purchased relatively affordably, when you call it Mystic Merlinite, for some reason the price goes up. So, look for Indigo Gabbro, it’s gorgeous. It’s relatively new in terms of when it was discovered. Currently it’s only found (as far as we know), on the island of Madagascar. It’s this black stone with a large gray mottling, and if you take it out in the sun you’ll actually see some iridescence in the gray mottling.

The Second Eclipse

Let’s talk about the July 27th lunar eclipse. This is the one that’s sandwiched between the two solar eclipses. It is a total lunar eclipse. Which happens when our Earth moves in between the sun and the moon, blocking the reflection of the sun’s rays.

We’re going to have this total lunar eclipse on July 27th, but if you’re in North America we’re not going to see it because it’s happening in the middle of our daylight hours, but the moon is going to pass directly through the Earth’s shadow, so it’s going to be obscured. It’s not going to go away completely. It’ll have kind of a reddish tint to it from the shadow. That happens when some of the sunlight comes around and hits it and it looks really, really cool if you’re in a place on the planet where you’re going to be able to see it.

The energies of a lunar eclipse are the same as a really powerful full moon. It’s a very high amplitude kind of energy. However, specifically for this total lunar eclipse I’m going to advise you to look at the plans you make and think about them, but don’t take any action. Don’t make any changes. No new anything. Try to just evaluate any necessary changes for the next cycle because you want to keep in mind, we’re going to be smack dab in the middle of Mercury retrograde during this total lunar eclipse and this crazy eclipse season.

Lunar eclipses in general are good energy that bring about change. Don’t you go initiating any of your own changes or own big plans or big contracts because this is a time when it’s important to let things happen as they will. Be grateful for whatever lessons you learned during the last lunar cycle or for whatever intentions and seeds you planted that did come to fruition.

Eclipse Season Crystals

Moonstone

moonstone

The first crystal, you may have guessed, is Moonstone. It can be any kind of Moonstone, peach, rainbow, it doesn’t have to be a white Moonstone. Any of them are great for working with lunar energy in any moon phase, actually. Moonstone promotes goddess energy, divination, feminine energy, and that makes sense because the moon is known for goddess feminine energy, right? It also has a connection to water. It’s a great stone to work with for allowing you to more efficiently tap into your intuition.

Opal

Another crystal that I like to work with at this time is Opal. This particular crystal has such a pretty iridescence. Opal really helps to align us with lunar energy and watery energy, it’s about purification.

It actually contains molecules of water within it. If you live in a very dry climate or you’ve stored it for a very, very long time, it can end up drying out. If you notice your Opal has lost its iridescence, you’ll want to put it in a plastic bag with a cotton ball and a few drop of water. Wrap it up in that cotton, close up the bag, and it will rehydrate itself!

Selenite

The next crystal that I like for total lunar eclipse energy is Selenite. It embodies goddess energy and it’s a crystal that allows us to more easily communicate with our higher selves.

The Third Eclipse

Now let’s talk about the last eclipse in the season, and that’s the one happening on August 11th which is also during that Mercury retrograde period. It’s another partial solar eclipse. The last eclipse is taking place two weeks after the total lunar eclipse. With the moon having moved halfway around its orbit, (and again it’s a new moon again) we’ll be right back where we started. The other partial solar eclipse taking place, will be the total opposite of that FIRST partial solar eclipse. It’s also important to note this one will be extreme northern latitude.

In terms of cosmic energy it’s going to be similar to the July 13th eclipse, except that you’re now in Mercury retrograde. Which means you’ll need to be a bit more careful. Be mindful of not starting anything new, just reviewing, reviewing, and extra reviewing.

Working With Crystals

When I say, “work with the crystals,” I like to give specifics of what that actually looks like. I’d also like to leave you with some examples of how you can work with these crystals. There are loads of ways to do so, you could simply meditate with the crystals…or, like we said before, that contemplation time during the Mercury retrograde eclipses, you can just sit with the crystal while you’re contemplating, it helps to entrain your energy field. You can create and work with an eclipse intention crystal grid or consider creating a specific crystal grid while using those crystals within your grid.

Some people also sit outside during the eclipse event. Again, even though you can’t see it, you’re sensing the energies and you’re even more connected with them when you’re sitting out within Mother Nature. I did this during the total solar eclipse and it was such a powerful thing. You can just sit directly on the Earth to activate and attune to the energies between yourself, the crystal, and the eclipse.

Next you could put together an eclipse energy mojo kit, and include several crystals in a little pouch to carry around with you. Be careful when you’re carrying them around because they tend to hit each other. You want to be gentle with them so that you’re not causing any damage to the crystals themselves.

You can also take an eclipse energy bath, and add some drops of jasmine essential oil because jasmine is very closely related to lunar energies. It carries intense new and full moon frequencies, so it’s good for any of these eclipses.

Keep in mind that Selenite is the only crystal listed above that shouldn’t go in water.  People freak out and think that it’s going to melt if you put it in water. It’s not going to melt. It’s not going anywhere. If you submerge Selenite in water for a long period of time it will start to become dull. This is because it becomes water soluble over a long period of time.
