How to Ground using Crystals + Other Tips & Techniques

Some of us struggle to stay grounded, to stay connected, balanced & centered.  Sometimes you just feel like a total space cadet.

I find I get un-grounded when I’m at an event around a lot of people if I know the focus is on me…b/c I’m an introvert. Or when I’m overloaded with work.

There are many ways to ground yourself. Here in this blog post, I’ll share what works for me. 🙂

CAUTION: In my experience though, you sometimes need to be careful to not to OVERDO the grounding. As in everything, we’re looking for balance. Doing too much grounding can possibly have a negative impact on some, making them feel too “low” & “heavy”…sometimes even depressed. But only you can determine what is best for you.

I teach several grounding techniques in my Certified Crystal Healer Courses and some that are specifically tailored for professional crystal healing sessions…to keep the therapist well-protected.
Why do we need to be grounded at all?
 

I whole-heartedly believe that in order to physically manifest what you want here on the physical plane, you must be solidly grounded. This isn’t necessary  “all of the time”, nor is it recommended. Hey, sometimes, being ungrounded is exactly what’s needed. But being able to re-establish that grounding when needed is key.

It’s also part of your energetic hygiene, b/c when you’re not grounded…that’s when your electromagnetic field (aka your aura) can become vulnerable and even “rip”, “tear” or “leak” your energy…or allow energetic cords to become attached.
Physical Symptoms of Being Un-Grounded

If you have 2 or more of the below symptoms, you may be currently ungrounded.; the more symptoms, the more un-grounded you may be. (BTW these same symptoms manifest when we’re exposed to too much EMF radiation and/or have various types of auto-immune diseases…chicken or the egg scenario? Just sayin’)

  • varying levels of depression
  • decreased dopamine levels
  • increased levels of adrenaline & cortisol (no bueno!)
  • undisciplined
  • fatigue
  • leg cramps or restless legs
  • headaches or migraines
  • muscle pain
  • insomnia
  • disorganized
  • unfocused & decreased attention span, cannot finish projects or see anything through
  • low stamina

Grounding is a standard & important safety procedure among electricians. With both electrical wiring as well as with our own electromagnetic fields (auras), grounding creates a direct physical connection to our planet!
This is CRITICAL, b/c Mama Earth acts as a reservoir of charges & can neutralize any excess electrical current or energy.

Grounding literally dissipates excess energy to the ground. When our homes + appliances are grounded (to a lightning rod) it protects us from shocks, shorts & interference. You can verify that with any electrician you know!

When you’re properly grounded you have a neutral charge, meaning your energy is balanced. Plus, when we’re well-grounded it’s also beneficial to us for self-protection; it helps keeps our energy focused & un-scattered.
My Go-To Grounding Stones + Mineral Treatments
One thing I like to do personally is to increase my magnesium uptake both internally as well as externally.

Immersing your body in ionic minerals, such as magnesium, will allow you to ground by picking up any excess charge. I do things like take ionic magnesium concentrate (taken internally; about 8 drops/day), magnesium bath salts or even magnesium oils (to rub on the skin or to bathe in).

I also really love to use ferromagnetic (aka iron-containing) stones as they are very effective grounders.

Remember that we have high amounts of iron in our blood which harmonizes more easily with the humongous iron core crystal at the center of our planet…yes, the very planet we’re trying to ground with…there’s a freakin’ big hexagonal iron crystal hanging out below our feet, hotter than the sun & about the size of Texas!!

***I don’t know about you but I think that’s some pretty cool shizzle!***

Good to know, right? B/c working with ferromagnetic crystals allows us to more easily entrain with the grounded energy of Earth.
A few great stones to choose from:

  • lodestone
  • hematite
  • pyrite
  • black tourmaline

Earthing
In order to stay ground & balanced, another great thing to do is have skin-to-Earth contact, picking up the earth’s natural plethora of negative ions.

Because most of us are almost always in shoes, your feet don’t get to touch the Earth & pick up the negative ions that our great planet provides aplenty. Really all you need to do to ground is walk around barefoot on the Earth(I recommend doing this as much as possible).

And if you’re in a cold climate & don’t want your feet frozen to the ground, you can always go hug a tree with your bare hands. Yep! That makes the same sort of grounding circuit with the Earth.

Weighted Blanket Technique
Have you heard of the weighted blanket phenomenon? It’s a safe & effective non-drug therapy known to help those with insomnia, sensory processing disorder, autism, Asperger’s syndrome, anxiety and so much more.

“Historically, Native Americans and other indigenous tribes from around the world automatically wrapped their babies snuggly in a swaddle or cradle board to ease fussiness.” stated by Tori Boucher, an autism spectrum counselor. You can check out more info on the weighted blanket technique here.

But I want to take this idea a step further specifically for grounding!

You may be familiar with the BioMat and the BioMat amethyst & black tourmaline pillow. Well…the pillow’s crystals are actually encased in a special removable quilted cover that zips off & can be used as a mini-weighted AMETHYST + BLACK TOURMALINE blanket placed over various areas of the body!! Yeah, I know~~!

Specifically for grounding, I’ve placed it over or under the legs or feet, whichever feels the most comfy. Doesn’t get any more grounding than that, huh?

I’ve been telling my Crystal Healing students about this BioMat technique for years & all who try it, tell me they love it. ♥
Grounding Gem Elixir Oil
For days when I feel a little extra grounding is in order I have my Grounding Gem Elixir Oil that I can use in a number of different ways. I can diffuse it in a space with an oil burner or diffuser, I can wear it as a perfume or I can anoint my stones & meditation altar objects. I even just like looking at it b/c its just so damn sparkly pretty!

So let me give you the recipe for this special stuffs.

BTW, I didn’t measure on this…I just added random drops of different ingredients until I liked it. We’re not baking cookies here so feel free to play with it. 😉  I  recommend that all essential oils listed should be organic, fair-trade & sustainably harvested whenever possible.

  • jojoba oil as the carrier oil base
  • several drops of magnesium oil
  • several drops of juniper berry essential oil
  • cedar wood essential oil
  • clove bud essential oil
  • patchouli essential oil
  • 3 whole cloves
  • gemstone chips of red garnet, hematite, black onyx or black tourmaline

This oil has a very comforting & calming energy while connecting us solidly to Mama Earth.  It’s potent stuffs & it smells soooo good!

 Grounding Tips for Balance in a High Flying World

 

Grounding is definitely a good idea & a wonderful practice in the world of energetic healing & crystal healing:

We need to ground to stay balanced, so that we don’t get depleted w/ an electron deficiency!!! In today’s fast paced electro savvy world, we’re surrounded by positively charged ions & are mostly insulated & disconnected from the healing effect of Mama Earth. In order to stay balanced, the best thing to do is have skin to earth contact, picking up the earth’s natural plethora of negative ions.

Because of those new shoes, strappy sandals, or fancy boots you’re  kickin’, you’re feet don’t get to touch the earth & accumulate the negative ions that our great planet provides aplenty.  Really all you need to do to ground is walk around barefoot on the Earth … (I recommend doing this as much as possible).

But, if you’re an urban Crystal Hottie, or you live in a cold climate, well it’s probably not really that practical to go barefoot very often.  Luckily,  we can use substitutes for our practical needs (love me some practical answers).

What about when you’re off the ground & you’re actually physically disconnected from the earth?

  • Use crystals in your meditation, grab that black tourmaline,  focus your intention and visualize rooting and grounding into Mother Earth.
  • For travel, I  have another blog post on that right here on Crystals & Travel which includes my special mojo kit for travel.
  • Here’s that other video I referred to on Crystals for Grounding.
  • When traveling in a train or an airplane, you need to set a strong intention during the flight & take extra special care after the flight;
  • Carry a hematite stone & use it to help balance your electromagnetic field & alleviate jet lag.
  • Also take your shoes off during the flight (and rub your tootsies w/ the hematite).

BEWARE & Combat Radiation After a Flight
What? Radiation on an airplane?

Yes, I know from my last post on this topic that this is shocking news to many. Yep, flying the “friendly” skies gives as much as 1,000 times the radiation of those airport body scanners everyone is yammering on about. It’s not actually the airplane doing this but our closer proximity to the Sun. Dr. Mercola, natural health expert explains:

“Nearly everyone forgets that when you fly, there is also ionizing radiation exposure. In fact, on a typical transcontinental flight at 30,000 feet you will be exposed to 20 microsieverts of radiation. That is 1,000 times the dose you receive from the scanner.”

So what to do about that?

1. Load up on anti-oxidants before, during & after your flight. Both in supplement form and naturally through your food: blueberries, leafy greens, colloidal silver

2. Take an Crystal Anti-Radiation Mineral Bath as quickly as you can after the flight. Ingredients:

    colemanite is boron-based, thereby accepting & ionizing radiation

  • 1 hematite (use a polished one or it will rust)
  • 1 cup of plain epsom salts
  • 1 cup of baking soda
  • 1 cup high quality Himalayan Salt
  • 3-4 Tbsp of Sonne’s Detoxification No 7- contains bentonite (mineral-rich volcanic clay), soaks up yuckies, like radiation & helps your body recover quickly

3. Fly at night. No Sun. Genius, right?!! Now those red-eye flights don’t sound so bad.

I’ve blogged on this topic once before but in this video we take the topic of traveling with your crystals to a whole other level (or I should say altitude…har har!)

Thanks to Christine for submitting this great question:

“Is it safe to travel with your crystals through an airport x-ray scan?”

What started out as what felt like a lite-and-easy-question to me…turned out to having me include some really important info that I think everyone should be aware of! So in this week’s video I will answer Christine’s question plus:

  • What are x-rays?
  • Is it dangerous to our stones?
  • Is it dangerous to us?
  • What kind of radiation can be dangerous?
  • Crystals we can take with us on a flight to help ensure safe travel free of anxiety, air sickness, jet lag, etc.

I also want to let you know that x-rays will not damage or molecularly change your stones…you, on the other hand…that’s another story.

Blissful Travel Gem Elixir
Here’s something else to help with travel…a Hematite Gem Elixir. Take a washed & tumbled non-manmade hemetite stone & drop it into a pitcher of water to be kept in the refrigerator overnight. Drink half a glass of this the morning of your trip. Make some more up once you get where you are going to help with jet lag. Hematite gem elixir is a gentle & easy way to support & calm you while you travel.

SIDE NOTE:

Although I barely touch on the topic of the amount of radiation we’re subjected to when flying in the video, it’s something that you should be very cautious & informed about (yet you won’t hear much about it).

We can  be exposed to even more doses of radiation during solar storms, so during periods of increased solar activity…like now, this is something to pay attention to. NASA has a computer model aimed at informing the public about this hazard. You can find out more about that here.

I know some of you enjoy these scientific rabbit holes as much as I do sooooo…if you feel like geekin’ out for a sec here’s a NASA video explaining more on that radiation air travel danger. KNOWLEDGE = POWER (the ability to protect yourself & do something about it):

Crystals to Help Lower Your Radiation Risk
These crystals certainly won’t eliminate risk but they will help.

Kernite or Colemanite crystals can help to absorb low-dose radiation. These crystals are Boron-based, thereby accepting & ionizing radiation:

Does Solar Activity Affect Us?

So, this solar pole flip energy stuff has some of us really flipped out, right?

As I discuss in this week’s featured video there’s nothing to fear because we’ve all done this before. The flip we’re in now is only the 4th observed since tracking began in 1976.
Does Solar Activity Affect Us? & Crystal Porn!

The Sun’s magnetic field flips regularly every 11 years at the peak of each solar activity cycle…when the Sun’s internal magnetic dynamo reorients itself. We’re not sure exactly why this occurs. Scientists predicted the flip would occur now & say it should be complete by December.

Think back to late 2000, early 2001. Do you remember anything significant happening? That’s when we had our last flip.

What’s happening now is that the sun’s magnetic field has weakened, eventually dying down to zero point before ramping up again with an opposite polarity. So, north is south & south is north. Flip-flop!

It’s important that you know, Lima Bean, that this is not a disastrous event.

BUT scientists do acknowledge the reversal will have ripple effects throughout our solar system, as it always does. So, there’s a lot of solar activity & what we call space weather headed our way during this event.
Reflecting on what I mentioned in the video, re: solar activity & earthquake correlation…check out this email sent out by EarthSkyNews last Saturday morning:

Does it affect us in any way?

YES. Every electromagnetic field in our solar system, including our own, is influenced to some extent & we can feel these effects on multiple levels.
Symptoms of the increase in space weather:

  • Feeling’ tired
  • Floaty
  • Autoimmune disease flare ups
  • Allergy symptom flare ups
  • Cranky
  • Dizzy
  • anxiety
  • Spaced out

Prescriptions:

  • Staying in heart center…Remember, we’re all going through this together so be understanding
  • Focus in on the energy of our local stars, the Moon, and, of course, our Sun. We’re a part of this whole system. Lots of moving parts.
  • Crystal work with Black tourmaline, my go-to stone for this. Hematite is also great! In fact, I have what I call My Sacred Grounding Trio: black tourmaline, smokey quartz & hematite. Blizzard stone is another great one for balancing energies & uber-grounding.
  • Do lots of Earthing (check out that book!) Earthing is absolutely amazing! Get barefoot & go outside!!! The Ultimate in Grounding. Your feet are meant to connect with Mother Earth! That’s why animals are so well grounded & in-tune. They’re always barefoot!
  • Working on your root chakra. Many of us have an unbalanced root that needs our loving, caring attention.
  • Nourishing root-based foods (carrots, potatoes, shallots, etc.)
  • Touch therapies (massage, aroma-touch therapy, etc.)
  • Unplug & try to get away from electronic EMF’s & electro-pollution
